Book Reviews of Mommywood

Book Review: Reviewed by Jennifer Vido[...]
Summary: 5 Stars

Tori Spelling is back in her latest tell-all book with lots of tantalizing scoop about her glamorous Hollywood lifestyle. Unlike her first go-around which analyzed every detail of her torrid relationship with her mother Candy; this installment focuses more on her latest role as a new mother. With a husband plus two small children, Tori must learn how to keep her private life and the demands of stardom in balance.

Being part of the Spelling Dynasty made having a normal childhood virtually impossible. So, Tori and husband Dean set out on a mission to find the perfect location to raise their young family. Surprisingly, it's not with their fellow Hollywood Starlets. Instead, they move into an upper middleclass neighborhood complete with Fourth of July parties and nosey neighbors. Of course, despite their best intentions, the television cameras from their reality show plus the paparazzi lurking in their bushes do little to help them blend in with their new-found friends.

From the get-go, Tori knew firsthand that motherhood would be no easy job. From dirty diapers to Red Carpet temper tantrums, Tori has her work cut out for her. Not to mention, Dean just happens to be the apple of their son's eye. Who would have thought that jealousy over their own child would come into play? Luckily, the two learn to accept their son's fickle expressions of love and put their relationship back on track.

With the news of another child entering their love nest, the threesome embraces the addition of a precious baby girl. Of course, Tori laments over the possibility of her repeating her mother's errant ways. With the help of Dean, she welcomes the baby into the fold with hilarious zany adventures only befitting to the delightful Tori herself.

MOMMYWOOD is an insider's peek into the comical life of a straight-talking actress who put her riches aside to find the true meaning of life with the man of her dreams. From hilarious anecdotes to heartwarming stories of love, Tori Spelling tells it like it is in her delightful second memoir worth every last cent.

Book Review: MOMMY LIKES!
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved SToriTelling. I loved its straighforward humor and brave honesty and glimps into celebrity which we hardly get to see after all the whitewashing that's done by publicists. So, seeing how I felt about the first, I could wait to get my hands on Mommywood. It was better than the first I thought. As a writer, I know the challenges of being honest without crossing bounderies and I felt Tori mananged it with aplomb not leaving a morsal of "the real" out, yet not being afraid to tell us things she'd rather not delve into any deeper (her relationship to her husband's ex for one) which I thought was incredibly respectable. The biggest laughs I got were the stories about what it's like to bring a kid, or two or three into your life and expect things to stay status quo. Having a baby changes you intrinsically and Tori isn't afraid to share the good, the bad, and the...well...kind of gross. As far as talking about her mother which some reviewers had a problem with, if you have experienced a rocky road with parents, you will find it a relief to hear you're not alone. It's not "bashing" that Tori does so well, it's sharing a disappointment in some of the ways she was raised. Every good mom I know goes through a period where they are forced to assess what was good and what was not good about their upbringing so they know what to work on with their own children. Tori is doing just that. I too know what's it's like to parent without parents and it's tough. You will not find many "celebrity" memoirs with this much spunk, humor, honesty and insight. I found it a pleasure to read every page.

Book Review: Tales of a Hollywood mom
Summary: 5 Stars

"Mommywood" is Tori Spelling's second memoir, and I liked it almost as much as her first. Obviously, I am a huge "Beverly Hills, 90210" fan, but I also like Tori because she's so down-to-earth. Her second book details her life as a working celebrity mom of two young children. In "Mommywood," Tori gets pregnant with her second child, tries to shield her kids from the paparazzi, attempts to fit into one of L.A.'s ordinary neighborhoods (if such a thing actually exists), and works hard to be the best mother she can be.

What I love the most about Tori's books are that they're so honest and funny. Tori always tells it like it is, and is very open about every aspect of her life, from pregnancy to sex to personal insecurities. She's also laugh-out loud hilarious...the Stella "PUTP" incident made me laugh so hard, I was almost in tears. If Tori and I ever meet one day, I have a feeling we'll be fast friends.

The one thing that I didn't like about this book was that Tori did seem to take a bunch of unnecessary shots at the people in her life who have wronged her in some way, from her mother to Luke Perry to her husband's ex-wife, and even to some extent her young stepson. I don't blame Tori for feeling the need to vent about those relationships, but I think her comments will probably end up doing her more harm than good. In her future books, she should probably just try to avoid certain subjects that could potentially showcase her in a bad light.

Overall, though, "Mommywood" was a fun and enjoyable read. I hope Tori has another memoir in the works!

Book Review: Great book...Very interesting information...I don't get the haters?!?
Summary: 5 Stars

First and foremost, I don't get all these people posting nasty reviews on the book. Some say it's way too farfetched, while others announce it being a reflection of a bad intelligence level of the readers of America.

1- It is a intimate story of a Hollywood mother trying to be a great mother to her children. All hollywood mothers may seem farfetched to people that are not wealthy and well-known.

2- Not all people of America have the same reading level and even some people can not read at all.

3- Some people also are not very fond of the actress so they might post nasty reviews just because they want to make themselves feel good.

Now that the bashing on the bad reviewers are complete...I can get to a good review...

I myself am not very fond of the actress in many of things. I believe she was only good on one of the most popular teen shows ever, 90210. I can say though in my very own opinion, I love this book!

1- She is very humorous and witty, which most people like to read about
2- Gives very insightful details about her life as a mother, which could possibly help some mothers raising their children
3- The information is very interestingly funny in parts and caught my eye
4- Could possibly help some people cope with many of things in a bad or good way, like birth of a baby, loss of a beloved pet and so on...

Just all in all, this was a great read...

She is very funny and brilliant in writing an in-depth memoir

Book Review: Tori is as Real as they Come - God I love her!
Summary: 5 Stars

For those who have read other people's reviews on Mommywood and her previous book, do you notice a theme in almost everyone's reviews?
Almost every one of our reviews starts with "wasn't a fan until I read her book or viewed her reality show". Tori has an innate charm and goodness about her that you can't help but become enamored with her. Mommywood was very enjoyable. A couple of people critique her for continuing on with her relationship with her mother who let's not forget is also the children's only living grandparent.
There was a need to continue exploring her bad relationship with her mother since she now has a daugher and as a mother, she identifies more with Stella than Liam and the doubts she has as a mother are magnified with a daughter as opposed to a son.

What makes Tori so charming is her honesty. She fully admits enjoying the perks of celebrity and her trials in being a stepmother to Dean's child from a former marriage. Tori's a good actress but she's no Meryl Streep so I can believe what we hear, see and read from her is very real and we totally buy who she is. A very wonderful read!
