This book is an excellent overview of 21 massage modalities: Active Isolated Stretching, Ayurvedic Therapies, Cancer Massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Geriatric Massage, Infant and Pediatric Massage, Lomi Lomi, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Therapy and Deep Tissue Massage, Orthopedic Massage, Polarity Therapy, Prenatal Massage, Reflexology, Shiatsu, Sports and Fitness Massage, Structural Integration, Thai Massage, Tragerwork, Trigger Point Release, and Tui Na.
The chapters are written by such world-renowned therapists as John Upledger, Judith Walker Delany, Sandy Fritz and Dane Silva. It is organized as a textbook with student objectives, learning points and a quiz in each chapter, but is useful for any massage practitioner or any person who loves massage and wants to know more. Each chapter includes philosophy, history and practical techniques, as well as photographs, tables, footnotes and references to the best books and web sites.
As the author of Hawaiian Massage Lomilomi: Sacred Touch of Aloha and a co-author of the lomi lomi chapter in this book, I found it fascinating to learn about all of the other modalities. Many of them are new to me. This book inspired me to try them as soon as possible!
