Nalini Singh is an amazing writer, and her Psy-Changeling series is one of the best paranormal romance series out there.
The series takes place in a futuristic world close enough to our own where forests and concrete jungles fight for dominance over the land, and three races keep clashing and meshing: The ice-cold Psy with mental superpowers; the hot, oh-so-sexy Changelings who can shift into animals (big cats, wolves, you name it); and Humans, their go-betweens.
"Mine To Possess" is book 4 in this series; I advise with all my heart to read this series in a chronological order (ah, I do hate the word "chronological"!):
Lucas and Sascha's story: Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changelings, Book 1) - My absolute favorite!
Vaughn and Faith's story: Visions of Heat (Psy-Changelings, Book 2)
Judd and Brenna's story: Caressed By Ice (Psy-Changelings, Book 3)
Book 1 introduced us to the DarkRiver leopard pack, the dominant predators of San Francisco, and its sexy alpha Lucas Hunter. Book 4 tells the story of Clay Bennett, the deadliest of DarkRiver's sentinels (the sentinels help their alpha control and protect the pack).
Clay, a half-human/half-leopard, has always walked the fine edge of surrendering to his beast and going rogue. Violence claws at his soul, and he struggles it each and every day.
Enters Talin McKade. She's human. She's terrified of Clay. And she desperately needs his help.
As kids, Talin and Clay shared the most powerful of emotional bonds. They were torn apart when Clay slaughtered Talin's abusive foster father to save Talin's life. He's been sent to spend years in juvenile hall; she's been been raised by a farmers' foster family. Deeply traumatized, Talin asked Social Services to notify Clay that she had died in a car crash.
Now, twenty years later, Talin finds Clay. The street children she works to protect as part of the "Shine" project are disappearing, later to be found brutally murdered. Determined to keep them safe, she turns to the strongest man she knows...

Nalini Singh solves all of these questions as she weaves a masterful plot of hot romance and suspense. The book lost half-a-star because the romance took a wee bit less focus in this one. Nevertheless I enjoyed the book wholeheartedly. Each book in this series also serves to advance the Psy-Changeling battle plotline to a climax (Mmmmmm....) I can't wait to reach. Oh, yes, I'm definitely buying the next book in the series - Hostage to Pleasure (Psy-Changelings, Book 5)
