Book Review: Great way to accomplish work goals, learn about new features

I think that some people will argue that this book is not substantive enough to fill their needs as an "experienced user" (whatever that means). Thhe truth is that this book serves the purpose of helping the reader to get work done in an efficient and understandable way. Getting work done is the main purpose of this book. Since it is not a MOS book, Microsoft® Office Word 2007 Step by Step (Step By Step (Microsoft)) it has a relaxed feel that is absent in most of the gigantic, 3 pound books. There's no pressure to study and become an expert here, just an organized explanation of all of the things that are new with this version.
Personally, The most aggravating thing about Word 2007, was the ribbon. At first irt seems counterintuitive to have it spread across the top of the screen when the other familiar icons were kept on a tiny taskbar either below or above the ribbon. The ribbon is thoroughly explained in this book allowing the new or transitional user to get jobs done that were commonplace in previous versions (Word 2000, 2002 2003).
With this book, you can learn about all the new features of Word without spending hours online trying to learn from the Microsoft training courses. All this and it lays flat for easy reference on the desk where you might have your PC.
This book, along with other books in the series are bound to become essential reading for beginners and gurus alike (Notice that even the Inside Out series is not advertised as for power users)Microsoft® Office Word 2007 Inside Out . If you need a good solid reference about how to get up to speed fast with Word and to do work in an efficient way, then this is your book.
If you need your ego enhanced by someone's "For Experts" guide, then this is probably not your best choice at all. Try these instead:
