This resource covers every bug you are likely to see on the USMLE. The USMLE-style questions are a helpful way of organizing the most likely and classic presentation of different bugs, however unlikely you are to see that perfect presentation in your clinic. It is also helpful that they organize bugs based on laboratory findings, which I'm sure will be useful when you one day hear that you have a Gram +, Cat + Cocci growing in your culture.
Some might say that making cards help them study, annotating and highlighting a base set of cards is faster and just as effective for me. Learning the names, then putting them on a huge chart with their lab findings in a hierarchy and the bug's characteristics below helped me organize the information, and the cards helped to make sure I knew it all forwards and backwards.

These flashcards will help medical students organize and recall medical microbiology information for course exams and USMLE Step 1. The cards are grouped into sections on gram-positive, gram-negative, and other bacteria; RNA and DNA viruses; fungi; protozoa; and helminths. Each section begins with charts summarizing key information on the group of microorganisms, followed by cards for each individual microbe, which include clinical presentation, pathobiology, diagnosis/treatment, quick facts, and a case study. Schematic illustrations show the morphology and pathogenesis of different microorganisms.
