Book Reviews of Message in a BottleBook Review: A MAN wrote this??!! Summary: 5 Stars
I've never read a Nicholas Sparks book nor have I seen any of the adapted movies. After several people recommended Message in a Bottle, I , with a huge sigh of resignation, broke down and bought a copy. I finished in under two days. I was sucked in from the opening lines. It astounds me that such a poignant, tear-jerker of a novel was written by a MAN! When it comes to romance writing, leave that to us women. Shame on me! Sparks proves me dead wrong. His writing from the viewpoint of the main character, Theresa, was truly believable. I was devastated by the turn of events in the final pages, but that's the way the story goes, so to speak. I was rooting for Garrett and Theresa all the way; I felt personally affronted by the sad ending. But a good tearjerker ( yes, damn it, I cried!) is good for a body sometimes. I recommend this book highly. It reads fast, the characters are genuine, and it touches your soul.
Book Review: Message In A Bottle Summary: 5 Stars
Nicholas Sparks has written another great book, "Message In A Bottle". A woman by the name of Theresa Osborn takes a summer vacation in Cape Cod. One morning while jogging along the beach she comes across a bottle with a scrolled up message inside that takes her breath away. Theresa goes through extensive research to find the mysterious yet sensitive writter. She finds the man on an old fishing port in North Carolina and from there the romance begins. Theresa has a hard time coping with the relationship since her ex-husband moved out when she was pregnant with her son. Garrett, the secret writer, has a love too, his wife Catherine to whom he writes the letters. Theresa finds out about Catherine and it brings Garrett to terms with who he really is. I saw the movie after reading the book and found the book to be much better, so READ it!!
Book Review: I still sit and think of Garrett... Summary: 5 Stars
I was given this book to read after my best friend had read it. She was wiping tears from her eyes as she finished the last chapter, ironically - we were driving home from a visit in Boston. I finished the book in 3 days - I couldn't put it down because it held my interest so strongly. It was a beautiful, yet disheartening love story; a lot like real life. I did not see the movie and I really don't want to. I still sit and think of Garrett; the way I pictured him and how he must have looked out on the boat that very first night him and Theresa sailed. I think Nicholas Sparks is a kind, sensitive, and talented author with concern for the feminine spirit - he sure knows how to touch a woman's heart. - even in The Notebook - another great book. I really enjoyed the book, and I encourage people to try and read it - I feel it's a good one.
Book Review: Magical. How sensitive we all are to even try again. Summary: 5 Stars
This book is about recovering your strength to trust someone else and the gauntlet that people put themselves through even when the prize is so close at hand. How sensitive we all become with our past wounds that it becomes so difficult to share and trust the next time out! The author does a wonderful job of weaving these complex pasts together. Why are people so sensitive? Why do they hold back? With this story, that age old thing within us all is told so vividly. I found this book sitting in the train station in New Haven CT. Having just gone through a "lost Love", all the feelings of how helpless one can become when love leaves and you have no control over the outcome. I was deeply touched. I also bought the "Notebook" and again felt the Authors sensitive touch in how he presented what is one of the best love stories I have ever read!
