Book Reviews of Message in a Bottle

Book Review: Message in a Bottle
Summary: 5 Stars

Nicholas Sparks is our very best chronicler of the human heart. His stunning first novel, The Notebook, has been given by friend to friend and lover to lover all over the world as a testament to the timeless power of love. But if we thought he could never again move us so deeply, he now shows us he can-in a story that renews our faith in destiny...in the ability of true lovers to find each other no matter where, no matter when... Message In A Bottle

Thrown to the waves, and to fate, the bottle could have ended up anywhere. Instead, it is found just three weeks after it begins its journey. Theresa Osborne, divorced and the mother of a twelve-year-old son, picks it up during a seaside vacation from her job as a Boston newspaper columnist. Inside is a letter that opens with:

My Dearest Catherine, I miss you my darling, as I always do, but today is particularly hard because the ocean has been singing to me, and the song is that of our life together...

For "Garrett," the man who signs the letter, the message is the only way he knows to express his undying love for a woman he has lost. For Theresa, wary of romance since her husband shattered her trust, the message raises questions that intrigue her. Who are Garrett and Catherine? Where is he now? What is his story?

Challenged by the mystery, and pulled to find Garrett by emotions she does not fully understand, Theresa begins a search that takes her to a sunlit coastal town and an unexpected confrontation. Brought together by chance-or something more powerful-Theresa and Garrett are people whose lives are about to touch for a purpose, in a tale that resonates with our deepest hopes for finding that special someone and everlasting love.

Shimmering with suspense and emotional intensity, Message in a Bottle takes readers on a hunt for the truth about a man and his memories, and about both the heartbreaking fragility and enormous strength of love. For those who cherished The Notebook and readers waiting to discover the magic of Nicholas Sparks's storytelling, here is his new, achingly lovely novel of happenstance, desire, and the choices that matter most...

Book Review: Message in a Bottle
Summary: 5 Stars

Wonderful, romantic, enticing, well written! There is no shortage of words that could describe how great Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks is. Message in a Bottle is quite similar to another of his novels, the Notebook, in that the characters struggle with love. A divorced woman, Theresa, with a son, leads a very demanding and busy life as a syndicated columnist. As one would guess, she finds an unopened bottle on the beach. When she opens it, a whole new world unravels before her eyes. A romantic letter written to Catherine from Garret. Who are Catherine and Garret? Thersea puts the clues together and finds her mystery romantic, Garret. They meet and only their love for each other grows. Nocholas Sparks wrote about their love in such a beautiful manner. He clearly shows how Garret loved Catherine, but loves Theresa. "Theresa, I love you and always will. I am tired of being alone...I am sick and sad without you. As I sit here in the kitchen, I am praying that you will let me come back to you, this time forever." He writes with such passion, as if he is acharacter himself. He wrote with incredible inagery and symbolism. The whole message in a bottle idea is incredibly romantic. Man writes letter and sends it out to sea. Woman finds letter, finds man, they meet and fall in love! It's simple, but awesome. He turned this into a creative metaphor. Garret often wrote to his lost love, Catherine, and threw his letters out into the sea in a sealed bottle. He bottled up all of his emotions and threw them out, far away, where no one could help him. When Theresa opens the bottle, she opens up his emotions and exposes them to the world. She could somewhat relate to him because she had (in a way) lost a love. She became the one who could help him open up and let his true feelings be known. She helps him, and helps herself too. Despite the pure fact that I love this book, it isn't for everyone. It is a romantic love story. This story appeals to the sensitive and hopeless romantic senses of human nature. It gives a reader a feeling of hope for love. Not everyone wants that in a book. I loved it and could not put it down.

Book Review: One of my all-time favorite books
Summary: 5 Stars

WOW! What a great book! It is probably my all-time favorite. I can't wait for the movie! The book starts out with Theresa finding a bottle when she is out on a morning run on the beach. She opens the bottle to find a beautiful love letter written from Garrett to Catherine. This letter intrigues her very much and eventually she prints it in the local newspaper so others can see the beautiful letter. Well, the AP picks up the article, and the letter is printed in many papers. Eventually, Theresa gets a call from another lady who had found a bottle with a love letter in it also with the names Garrett and Catherine. Well, this is more than Theresa can bare, and she starts to check if there are any more letters, and she does find one, and we finally find out that Catherine is dead. But, Garrett is very much alive, and from the letters she pieces together clues as to find his whereabouts. She finally finds him in a small town in North Carolina off the coast. He owns a scuba diving shop and his boat is right there by the shop. When Theresa inquires about Garrett, she is told he is down at his boat, the Happenstance, and she goes down there, just wanting to see who this man is. But she can't stop there. Garrett invites her out on his boat that evening and she promptly accepts. Well, a friendship evolves from this and eventually the two fall in love, without her telling him how she first really knew of him. When Garrett comes across one of his letters in her drawers, he becomes very upset, and he goes back home after having gone up to Boston with her. He goes out on his boat for the last time when a bad storm rages and Garrett is killed. It broke my heart--as well as Theresa's. Throughout the book, we watch Theresa and Garrett's love blossom. He has been a widower for three years and she has been divorced for three years--each very hurt. But slowly, they begin to overcome their fears and find that they can once again share their love. But Garrett has a hard time letting go of Catherine, and this hurts Theresa. This was a wonderful book and I hope to read many more books in the future by Mr. Sparks. Melissa J. Mills

Book Review: For a good cry, read this book.

This book is a tear-jerker, and especially for a guy, this book starts out kind of slow, but once you get toward the end, it did break my heart to see two people who loved each other, and it was just very emotional. This is worth reading.

Book Review: A Touching Love Story
Summary: 5 Stars

Message in a Bottle is a remarkable book, and like all Nicholas Sparks books it is a truly touching love story that leaves marks on your soul. This particular story is about a lady in her mid-thirties, named Theresa Osbourne that had recently gone through a divorce, and now single-handedly raised her twelve year old son, Kevin. On one of Theresa's vacations away from her home and job, writing a column in the Boston Times, she goes to a beach and finds a bottle washed up onto the shore. She picks up the bottle and opens it and there is a letter inside that she instinctively reads. The letter was written to a woman named Catherine by a man named Garret, and it is a very moving and romantic letter that amazes Theresa, considering it was written by a man. Taking out the names, she decides to print the letter in her column, hoping it would touch the readers as much as it had touched her. To Theresa's surprise she gets a phone call from someone who had also found a message in a bottle from Garret to Catherine. Theresa, only wondering what a man that writes such romantic and feeling filled letters, uses information in the messages to find him. When she finally finds him, pretending to be interested in the boat he recently remodeled, gets invited to go sailing with him. Not telling Garret about the letters she had found, she continued to spend time with Garret, and the two honestly fell in love with each other. Then Theresa finds out that Catherine is his ex-girlfriend that died when she was hit by a car. Having a long distance relationship, Theresa and Garret run into a lot of problems, but with true love like theirs, they are determined to work things out.

Nicolas Sparks has once again written a novel that will grasp the attention of people all over who like a good love story. I recommend this book for everyone that enjoys romance novels.
