Book Reviews of Memorial DayBook Review: A great and thrilling read... Summary: 5 Stars
I have read all of the Mitch Rapp novels and have enjoyed each and every one of them. I must say that after reading a few of the negative remarks below about the character of Mitch Rapp, I must say I wonder if these people have taken a personal feeling of being attacked as the "misdirected" officials in the book were. Trust me, these people exist in our government and do nothing more than stand in the way of progress. Mitch Rapp is as much a symbol of American strength and resolve in his exploits to right the wrongs done to America. I agree that if we had some Mitch Rapps in the world working for us we might have more progress made in the war on terror. As for this book, yes, it is the old "nuke the American city" plot, but how many romance novels out there follow the same plot of girl falls in love with mysterious stranger, mysterious stranger falls in love with girl plot? It is a tried genre that still has some steam left in it. Vince Flynn has written here a thrilling and exciting novel here and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great book. I can hardly wait for Consent to Kill next week to get some more Rapp action. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed the Mitch Rapp series moreso than the Ryanverse novels of Tom Clancy. Both are great authors, but Rapp is more my style of writing of the hero who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. Next to him and Richard Marcinko, Tom Clancy falls in the top three for counter espionage books, and also Robert Ludlum being a great author. If you love your freedom and rooting for the hero against all odds, then you will love this book. If you feel that the book is written in a generic style of the one lone ranger person taking the law into his own hands then, well, maybe you should pick up a touchy feely book and nurse your psyche.
Summary of Memorial DayFighting terrorism on foreign ground, CIA superagent Mitch Rapp does whatever it takes to protect American freedom. MEMORIAL DAY CIA intelligence has pointed to a major terrorist attack on the United States, just as the nation's capital prepares for a grand Memorial Day tribute to the veterans of World War II. Racing to Afghanistan, Mitch Rapp leads a commando raid on an al Queda stronghold in a remote border village -- and defuses plans for a nuclear strike on Washington. The crisis averted, the special ops work is done. But Rapp knows, in the face of a new kind of enemy, nothing is as it seems -- and it's up to him alone to avert a disaster of unimaginable proportions.
