Book Review: It's ok but won't give you a command of the rhythms

This book, and its sequel are good in the sense that they present all of those rhythms, probably the only one in print here in America at least. The books show the rhythms laid out fairly clearly. The problem is that you need to have a mini batallion of percussionists in order to play these. I was expecting that as they claim they had, but I also expected an arrangment of the same rhythm for one or maybe two drummers. Some of these require like 8 people to play. So unless you have a bunch of percussionist friends or are active in a drum circle don't buy it, 'cause you'll just stash it away as a reference book that you'll never use or learn much from.

All rhythms are easily adapted to conga drums and Afro-Cuban hand percussion. This series is presented in a brief, clear, and affordable manner. Volume 1 includes Clave, Tumbao for one and two drums, Yambu, Guaguanco (Havana ), Guaguanco (Matanzas), Rumba columbia, Conga (Havana), Conga (Matanzas) and Conga (Santiago). These volumes are designed for intermediate to advanced levels and assume the reader has some basic understanding of percussion notation.
