Hey, even to get Opus 1 in its complete form (beware of lesser priced portfolios, which only have the first two parts) with a spiral binding is worth the asking price. Let's be perfectly clear: if you sit down with a timer and a metronome and you start from the beginning, playing each of Op.1's patters slowly, then speeding gradually up, and you do this for minimum of 15 minutes per day, your technique will improve exponentially. Keep a notebook with tempos and exercize number, and do it daily, preferrably more than once. There is almost no stronger foundation for the right hand.
And - here's the cool part - this book gives you MILES more, complete Opuses (sp?) to EVERY collection Giuliani called 'studies'. For the most part, they are rhythmically static, the music moving through harmonic changes - for the most part, but not always. Still, these are very attractive studies, and since they are COMPLETE you get LOADS more than what you'd get in a 'greatest hits' type of book. Check out Opus 100 to see what I mean. Play the whole thing in one sitting. Fun, right? And satisfying as well.
And of course this book is SPIRAL BOUND. If you sight read a lot (this is all standard notation, no tab) you know how important that is. Spiral bound, and complete studies? You NEED this collection, since when it's not in print any more, you'll be hard pressed to ever find it again.
Also, get the complete Sor studies and Carcassi method, both in the same (spiral bound) series. Where were these collections when I was starting out??

Summary of Mel Bay Complete Giuliani Studies
The studies of Mauro Giuliani (1781-1829) stand alongside those of Fernando Sor, Matteo Carcassi, Dionisio Aguado and Ferinando Carulli as the staples of the didactic pieces by the "first generation" of classical guitarists. Giuliani was one of the most celebrated guitarists of his age, a brilliant performer and prolific composer. He left a legacy of compositions, and many of his works are heard regularly in recitals and concerts today. His student pieces are considered indispensable by generations of guitarists. The studies and exercises contained in the six opus numbers here provide some of the most effective material in the entire guitar literature for building and refining a superior technical command of the guitar.
