Book Reviews of Mastering the art of French Cooking 50th Anniversary

Book Review: Still the best after all these years
Summary: 5 Stars

After forty years, MASTERING THE ART OF FRENCH COOKING still remains the best cookbook ever written.

One can toss every other book on technique and on French cuisine, one can ignore the curriculum of every cooking school, and instead rely solely on this massive work. MASTERING THE ART OF FRENCH COOKING was the book which CREATED America's fascination with gastronomy, long before many of today's readers even were born.

Any aspiring cook who works his or her way from the beginning to the end will be an accomplished chef by the time the project is completed, so thorough are Julia Child's instructions.

Julia Child is a genius. This new edition of MASTERING remains the gem it always has been, and this book proves why Julia Child has earned a unique place at the top of every list of food writers.

Book Review: confidence in the kitchen
Summary: 5 Stars

Forty years ago I was newly married and literally could not scramble an egg. It was pathetic, but true, so my new husband gave me a copy of "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." Being the good student that I was, I treated this tome as a textbook, following Julia Child's directions to the letter. It saved my life, since we did a lot of dinner parties, so I had to hit the ground running. I'd never heard of sweetbreads before, but soon it was one of my favorite ingredients, thanks to Julia. As I grew more proficient in the kitchen, I found that I really loved to cook! I still have that worn, spotted copy of Mastering the Art, and though I cook now with an eye to healthy ingredients, I'll still turn to this bible for pointers from time to time. Thank you Julia Child!

Book Review: love this book!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was intrigued to get this book after seeing the new movie, of course, and I really, really like it! We will be making some dished from the book for our christmas dinner. I have tried several omelets and they are just yummy. I think Americans get to obsessed with butter because they are generally out of health anyway and all we hear about is "get the fat out of your diet"

Butter is just fine as long as you are eating little to NO processed food, fast food, pop (SUPER ICK!!) and you don't burn it. That is not a pretty thing--burning the butter. Hah!
I think we forget that eating well can be fun and taste great---BUT it takes TIME and many don't want to give the time up for healthy cooking,or decadent cooking for that matter!

LOVE THE BOOK!

Book Review: Gourmet Meal to Die For
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this book for my husband because we had seen Julie and Julia a couple weeks before. He loves to cook and is good at it. If our family wants more than just your basic meal, we ask Jim to cook; he has requests coming from church friends because of the wonderful contributions he has made for Church Suppers. So I guess it won't come as much of a surprise that for his own birthday meal he made: Roti de Porc Grand' Mere (page 382), Puree de Pommes de Terre a l'ail (page 520), and Tarte auz Pommes (page 635). It was a meal to die for and it only took all total about 3 hours to make.
I would highly recommend this book to those who are tired of ho hum food all the time and don't mind taking a few hours in the kitchen to really bless your family and friends.

Book Review: GREATEST COOKBOOK EVER!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this book after seeing the movie! I am/was a terrible cook; however, Mastering the Art of French Cooking is a teaching book.....and, I have made several of the recipes in this book and I love them all! I've learned how to hold a knife and how to slice vegetables and meats! I've learned the importance of proper cookware and how to care for it! My favorite recipes, so far, are the scalloped potatoes and the chocolate Queen Sheba Cake! These recipes, some easy some not, are as good as anything I have ever tasted! Also, the pan-broiled steak with sauce are simple to make and "out-of-this-world" delicious! In fact, the recipes made according to her guidelines are so good when served.....I wanted to finish the meal by "LICKING THE PLATE!" Thank you Julia!
