Book Review: Simple, beautiful perfection...

I'm a big fan of picture books and great illustrators, the best of which can oftentimes be found lurking among the children's books. I'm always on the look out for that magic combination of touching, intelligent text and amazing picture's-worth-a-thousand-words illustrations. I stumbled across this book hidden in the children's book section of a local bookstore (which is a waste of it's awesomeness, as far as I'm concerned). It's a great lesson for children, absolutely...but it's a book for adults to appreciate and treasure. I was enchanted by the simple yet wonderful pen and ink illustrations, and the story line sucks you in immediately. Touching, smart, happily suspenseful.
My copy has been borrowed and read to tatters by everyone who has ever found it on my bookshelf, and I've given it as a gift to my father and several friends and it's universally enjoyed. Highly recommend this one, it's lovely. Read it, feel it, give it to a long lost friend you've been missing.
