Book Reviews of Martha Stewart's Hors d'Oeuvres HandbookBook Review: Learn to be a Martha Summary: 5 Stars
Let's face it. You can't have a cookbook section and NOT list Martha Stewart. I know she's one of those celebrities you either adore or fear, but I like that mix in a chef. Besides, she knows her stuff. She's been catering for years. She know what does and doesn't work in the kitchen. And the woman has a mission - to give us all great ideas in cooking, decorating, gardening and organizing our junk. Here's a short selection of books you should have in your collection, including her extra-weird Halloween book. And I highly suggest subscribing to her magazine, Martha Stewart Living, for monthly recipes and ideas. You go Martha. (...)
Book Review: Go to First Course Encyclopedia Summary: 5 Stars
Extremely well organized and exquisite work on what would seem to be Martha's culinary gift -- hors d'oeuvres. The uniqueness is the partioning of techniques, e.g. layered, wrapped, etc., followed by those of actual recipes. Interspered are fantastic four-color photos of serving up these beautiful appetizers. Particularly fond of Eggplant Cups, Roasted Veggie Terrine, Chevre Grapes and Grilled Swordfish on Ginger Jalapeno Rice Cakes. This first class cookbook is blessed with uniqueness, style, clever serving suggestions, and massive info on techniques, sources, pantry. Must have for the entertaining cook.
Book Review: More like a reference book but that is okay... Summary: 5 Stars
I really liked this book... It had a WEALTH of options for appetizers both simple (some VERY simple) and complex for things that could be used at a cocktail party...or even as a first course or lunch. I found this to be a great refernce book and it seemed to be really well researched. I have gone back to it again and again looking for options for various things. And i like that it doesnt slant towards one thing (like cooked...pates...shushis...sandwhiches...veggies) there are options for every-type of flavor and taste. Its really a cross between a reference book and a cook book... i have found it very helpful.
Book Review: START THE MEAL OFF RIGHT, NO STALLING WITH MARTHA STEWART! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first of Martha Stewart's books that I have purchased. Watching her television show finally convinced me. And this book is almost as good as having Martha Stewart in the kitchen with you. I love the "side tips" she offers whatever she is doing, and the quality of her foods and presentations are great, even when preparing for informal get-togethers. I am always looking for new "starter" ideas and this book does it. I was once told that if you offer great hors d'oeuvres and a great dessert, the main meal doesn't matter. This book gets you half way there
Book Review: The ultimate hors d'oeuvres cookbook Summary: 5 Stars
Whether you're planning a Super Bowl party, a bridal shower, or a cocktail party, this book has numerous beautiful and delicious possibilities for entertaining. I've used it for a huge variety of events, unfailingly with incredible results. I love that EVERY recipe has a beautiful photo, so you can think about presentation possibilities. A couple of the recipes have proven more time-intensive than I expected, but those are balanced by the ones that have had a huge "wow" factor with almost no effort. You just have to experiment to find out which is which.
