Book Reviews of Martha Stewart's Hors d'Oeuvres Handbook

Book Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

Only Martha and her staff could come up with a book like this. I really love the concept of this book. The 1st half of the book contains beautiful colored photos of every single item. The 2nd half of the book is all the recipes. There are 2 built in ribbon bookmarks. Take 1 ribbon and mark the photo and take the other ribbon and mark the recipe. The majority of the recipes you have never eaten or dreamed of. If I was wealthy and had a chef---I would hand the book over and show them what appetizers I wanted prepared for the party. Years ago my mother purchased the book and she made many of the recipes. They were delicious. I wanted my own copy. If you are a fan of fancy appetizers this is your book. If you are looking for chicken wings and potato skins this is not your book.

Book Review: Pretty Pictures and interesting recipes

That Martha. What a book! As soon as I got out of the bin I bought it and started sending hot hors d'oeuvres in business envelopes to the mayors of every important city in America. It was my way of demonstrating that, contrary to what Thomas Szasz has to say about the mentally "ill" like me, we are not malingerers. On the other hand, what would you expect from someone who ate tee fours like M & Ms before my incarceration? A gourmet chef? Well, perhaps, but this book has given a center to my life and I'm taking it to heart. In fact, I'm presently thinking of wrapping myself in bacon so that I can pass myself off as a lonely, but sincere scallop at the Woman's Club L'Affair Spring at the end of this month. I highly recommend this adorable book.

Book Review: this is the definitive book on this subject!!!

This is a book I've been waiting for!! My wife and I have always found that our best "dinner" parties are the ones were we serve a variety of finger foods rather than one big entree. This book will give us ideas for years to come!! I must say that I think the best part of the book is its lay-out. You first get to see what the foods look like and then if you want the receipe, the page number is printed next to the picture. I wish all cookbook authors would use this visual approach to their receipes. I felt the the receipes were easily within the reach of the average cook and the explanations and tips on preparation were wonderful. All in all this is a book I will not only treasure but I will use again and again!!!!!

Book Review: WOW - One of the most useful books yet
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this book at the recommendation of a superb professional chef, known for her beautiful creations. When I looked through it I realized it was put together by a staff of people with great food-design talent. Incidentally, I have seen these hors d'oeuvres copied by the best chefs/caterers in New York. For the pages upon pages of beautiful ideas alone, it is worth the price. Martha/the staff/the editor (whomever is responsible) leaves no stone unturned - i.e., every kind of food idea you have ever seen is here in miniature, and more elegant! I have not used the recipes verbatim so I cannot say anything about that ... just the many, many pages of superb visual ideas. This book has changed my plates forever!

Book Review: A Hostess' Delight
Summary: 5 Stars

The days I need to make something for a bunch of foodie friends, who hold me to high standards,I bring out this book. Not only does it have the most unusual recipes but they are plated so well, that it makes all the difference.

From Figs in a Blanket to Skewered Beef Bulgagi, this book had the most enticing recipes. Coloured photographs almost show step by step instructions - which makes it simple to follow.

If there was one thing I didn't enjoy its that ALL the photographs are at the beginning of the book and all the recipes at the back. This made it very unwieldy to use cause one likes to look at the pictures while making appetizers.

Great for parties, where you need to impress.
