Book Review: Sweetly romantic

When 32 year old Jamie Warren finds her fiance in bed with another woman, she turns to her best friend Rich Manning for support. Rich's last girlfriend cheated on him and he has given up hope of finding "Ms. Right". Jamie feels her biological clock ticking, and after discouraging meetings with adoption agencies, she decides to become pregnant and asks Rich to be the sperm donor. Rich agrees, but insists that the two platonic friends secretly marry. As their friends and family uncover their scheme, what is obvious to everyone, that these long-term friends have been engaged in a 14 year courtship and are deeply in love, takes forever for Rich and Jamie to admit to themselves and to each other.
A marriage that is built on the love that blossoms out of a longterm, deep and respectful friendship appeals to my romantic heart. These older Debbie Macomber stories are real gems! Despite being less polished than her current works, they possess a roughness and rawness that is highly charming.
(The other two books in the "Those Manning Men" series are "Stand-In Wife", which is Paul's story, and "Bride on the Loose", which is Jason's story. Stand-In Wife and Marriage of Inconvenience are being re-released in August 2008 as a single book called Those Manning Brides".)
