What really got me into Marley and Me was the person who got the book for me, my mom. My mom had heard from a friend that it was really good and thought because we also have a Labrador I would enjoy it. As it turned out, I did not start reading this book until I heard that there was a movie coming out based on this book. So right then and there I decided before I see the movie I have to read the book.
The book Marley and Me is an unforgettable tale of the love and frustrations that come with being a dog owner. Throughout the book John Grogan learns more about dogs, and more specifically Labs, than he could have ever imagined. Even with all the trouble Marley seems to cause the Grogan family, he only has the most innocent of intentions.
This is one of the more interesting books I have read. I for one am not into reading. Granted I'm only sixteen, but I had a really hard time putting this book down so I could try and go to sleep. Marley is a lovable, adorable, and all around funny dog who just has a few screws loose. This book was a present, and it is one of the best presents I have ever gotten from anyone.
There are very few things that I dislike about this book. The one complaint I had was that some chapters just seemed to go off at a tangent with no point to them. These chapters disturbed the flow of the rest of the book in my opinion. I also felt that he did not cover Jenny's third pregnancy as much as he covered the others. He covered the first two in great detail; the third one he just seemed to say that Jenny got pregnant and a little while later the baby was there. So in some areas there was too much detail, and then in others, there was not enough.
This book is for just about anyone and everyone. If you are looking for a good laugh, something that is interesting, if you are considering buying a dog, if you love dogs or are a dog owner, this book is for you. This is the kind of exciting book that anyone can get into when they just want to read in their free time. This book is all about one dog trying to live it up to the fullest.
If you are a cranky old stuck up person who hates everything good in this world this is not a good book for you. This is a book that just makes you want to get up and play with a dog. Whether you are allergic to dogs or usually hate them, there is just no way that someone can hate this book. Even if you are a complete cat person you will fall head over heels in love with Marley.

Is it possible for humans to discover the key to happiness through a bigger-than-life, bad-boy dog? Just ask the Grogans.
John and Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same.
Marley grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, and stole women's undergarments. Obedience school did no good -- Marley was expelled.
But just as Marley joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. Marley remained a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit's end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.
