Book Reviews of Man Up! Nobody is Coming to Save Us

Book Review: Right on point, but not for the weak-kneed or faint of heart!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a hard-hitting, unblinking, tough love prescription for fixing the Black community. Steve Perry is a principal in an urban school in Connecticut, so he's no right wing, Ivy League windbag who lives in a mansion yet tries to tell people in the hood how to fix their lives. This man fights in the trenches every day trying to educate young Black people and give them a future. This book is definitely not for the sensitive, thin-skinned or faint of heart. There are plenty of "feel good" books out there like "The Audacity of Hope" for those who would rather keep on their rose-colored glasses, delude themselves into victimhood and point the finger of blame elsewhere. However, for those who are serious about cleaning up our own back yard and putting our people on the path to success, then this book might just be for you.

Book Review: Powerful Book! Now, we need action.
Summary: 5 Stars

I confess, I'm not much of a book worm, I tend to do most of my reading on-line -- This book, I read in two days!
The facts are clear; we in the black community are in crisis! My heart aches, wondering how we will correct the many issues that plague us.
Mr. Perry does an expert, incredibly honest job at pointing out both the issues and providing salient solutions.
It truly is up to us in the Black community to help ourselves. No more pointing fingers; no more relying on the same old broken methods of the past.
Well, this was supposed to be a book review. Bottom line, EVERY SINGLE black person
Should read take to heart the simple, but profound methods offered in this book. Well done Mr. Perry, keep up the important efforts.

Book Review: Somebody who finally gets it
Summary: 5 Stars

Mr. Perry expresses what the real problems are in the Black community. He is right when he states that we women are to take blame for the way we make excuses for our sorry sons behavior. I have two sons and I and my husband have tried to teach our sons what being a "real" man is all about. They have chosen to live the "cool life of the streets". We plan to give them both a copy of this book and hope they can finally see the light. A must read for men and women alike. If you have a loved one in prison, send this book to them, perhaps this will help them to finally grow up, and hopefully, "MAN UP!"

Book Review: Black Credibility.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a 59 year old black male and Vietnam Vet. So far, I have only browsed through the book and I can't find the words to express how impressed with this young man Steve Perry. At first, I thought only Bill Cosby was the only black man to tell it like it is.
To borrow a phrase from Fannie Lou Hamer, " I am sick and tired of being sick and tired" of the poverty pimps i.e. Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, (hate monger) Farrakan, ( emperor/crackhead) Marion Barry) etc.)
Thank you very, very much Mr. Perry.

Book Review: A Manifesto for Manhood
Summary: 5 Stars

Man Up! will become required reading for black Americans (young & old) in the sphere of my influence. This book delivers truth, problems, realities, and common sense solutions to the ills of the ebony community. Where did the brother find the wisdom, inspiration, and most of all the courage to say what needs to be said? We are destroying ourselves and must take corrective action now. This book is a manifesto and valuable first steps reading to a positive living in the right direction.
