Hi, I'm just passing through picking up a newer copy of "Mama's Bank Account". My Grandfather was moving to a retirement facility and had to get rid of most of his books. My father gave me first pick. I selected some oldies and goodies. I chuckled at the archaic cover and unappealing title of one book: "Mama's Bank Account". I took it as a joke. Then one day, when just me and my five year old daughter were home alone, I thought I'd highlight just how corny this bygone era was. I stood reading it out loud and acted out the various voices etc of some chapter in the middle of the book. To my surprise, not only was the story followable, but actually fun for my daughter. Hm. Ok. Maybe this could be a challenging chapter book at night for us. We are now more than halfway done with the book. To be honest, she doesn't want it read to her every night. But invariably, after a couple nights off, she wants to read it with me again. The most important thing I've left out is that the stories themselves are very worthwhile have a kind of character, a fiber that is missing from nearly all books nowadays. So the copy I have from my grandfather is 'loose leaf' literally sliding apart in my hands. I'm here for a new copy, so I can finish reading it with my daughter and start with my 8 year old son.
