For make-up junkies, it is a must have. For make-up impaired, it gives the basics. I loved this book, not only for the beautiful, amazing, knock-out photos, but because you can never know too much or have too much make-up. Kevyn is truly gifted as a make-up artist and his seemingly complex "looks" are quite moron-friendly. Each look is achievable. His writing is so-o real. His beauty tips are the ones kept un-revealed by most books written by women. It's a fantastic reference book, coffe table book, color-by-number, and looking-for-a-new-look book. I have long admired Kevyn Aucoin for what he can do with celebrities. When I saw that he'd written a book, I bought it. It was wonderful! Not only does he give quite useful tips, but if you want a new look, he's only happier to help you! Night on the town? Go to "The Vamp". Want to look like Marilyn Monroe? Go to "The Bombshell". A dewy, babyish look? "The Innocent". You want to see the ultimate transformation? Check out the photo that looks like Katherine Hepburn- then look who it really is. I love and respect the art of make-up more than anyone else. I think this book allows an aspiring make-up design artist, like myself, or even just a humble housewife searching for a new face, to play with hundreds of different looks. The large glossy photos of the faces that Aucoin creates allow for any women to try them out on herself. Kevyn Aucoin gives you all the basic materials and techiniques you need to create a look for any time of day, night, month, or year. I respect him emmensely for the artistry he allows us to see in this book. He is an amazing artist.Book Review: We need more books like these

I am glad to see that there are more smart makeup books out there nowadays. Books that appeal to the reader on many levels-- including her intelligence. Like "Lipstick" by Jessica Pallingston, "Beauty" by Bobbi Brown, and "Beauty over 40" by Dayle Haddon, Aucoin offers a mixture of fact, how-to, and information and alluring detail relating to how a woman's desire to remake herself visually goes further than skin deep, and how that in itself can be a fascinating subject for further scrutiny. Plus, the book itself is beautiful to look at!Book Review: We need more books like these
