Book Reviews of Making FacesBook Review: Pure Genius Summary: 5 Stars
This book was the best thing to ever happen to me. After wondering if makeup was the field I wanted as my career, Kevyn Aucoin has finally made that contemplation into a reality. I had another book by a popular makeup artist with wonderful tips but seemed very structured and unwilling to be daring. Kevyn, is the complete opposite. Besides the fact that this book is laid out wonderfully and very detailed, I believe that it could be the catalyst for future makeup artists, like myself. THANK YOU KEVYN!
Book Review: Who do you want to look like? Summary: 5 Stars
Apparently, if you get good enough at this, you could make anyone look like anyone else! Now, you too can look like Angelina Jolie! You can make your friends up to look like Julia Roberts! Heck, you can even make Michael Jackson human again...just by following the tips in this book!
Apart from its genius, this manual has the added bonus of doubling as an art book. The pictures are simply luxurious! I sometimes use it as a coffee table book. It's a must for any beauty enthusiast.
Book Review: Excellent Tutorials Summary: 5 Stars
This book has been so incredibly helpful! I have made changes in my daily makeup application and the result is amazing. He really covers all the basics, and then goes into detail explaining how to achieve a dozen or more specific looks. He uses drawings to illustrate each step of the application process, and I sort of wish that he had used real pictures of the model as he progressed through the steps instead. Overall this has been such a wonderful tool, I would definitely buy it again!
Book Review: Great book Summary: 5 Stars
This book is extremely well done. The examples of different looks you can achieve, how to use different products, the specific types of each product (ie. pencil eyeliner vs. cream eyeliner) are very helpful. The section in the begining on shading and contouring was great. I spent a good amount of time in front of the mirror with this book experimenting. Athough now some of the looks are a little outdated, many are still classic and the celebrities shot are still around today.
Book Review: makeup application books Summary: 5 Stars
Anyone who wants to feel confident about how they put on and wear their makeup should acquire all of Kevin's books. They are inspiring and offer techniques that will change the way you apply your makeup. Whether you want to have a dramatic look, or a natural look, his books will provide the instruction to create what you want with yourself, and the confidence to do it. Aside from the makeup information, reading his books is just plain inspiring about being human.
