Book Reviews of Making FacesBook Review: Great info & instruction in this book Summary: 5 Stars
Aucoin's book provides simple, easy to follow instructions to imitate his techniques. The book begins by walking you through the basics, foundation, concealer, shading/highlighting etc, then on to the treatment of the face. From brows to lips, his techniques are illustrated step by step with commentary on not only how to do the techniques, but also the differences between different types of make-up (like the properties of matte eyeshadow vs. frosted, who knew?) Aucoin then provides instructions to achieve different "looks" from ultra glamour to simple minimalism, there are over 25 different "looks" to learn. Overall, a great book, I think his personal story and commentary is an added bonus - though I think he could lose the plastic surgery section to keep with his overall 'beauty in us all' theme. I highly recommend this book. Best one I've found thus far.
Book Review: FOR DETAILS READ HERE Summary: 5 Stars
This book is well written and easy to understand. It offers lots of useful tips. This book is not geared toward the beginner who does not understand what concealer, foundation, and powder are used for or how they are different. Instead the focus of this book is for the person who already knows the everyday use of different products and would like to understand how they can better utilize them.
Individuality is an emphasis that the author gives, which I felt is a good thing. Sometimes you come across a woman who is truly cool toned but looks wonderful with a warm eye shadow. The only way to find these things is to step outside the general "rules" of make up artistry. Kevyn will help guide you there.
For the beginner I would recommend reading BEAUTY: THE NEW BASICS By Rona Berg. Then you can read this book and fully grasp what Kevyn's telling you.

Book Review: A book from the make-up genius Summary: 5 Stars
Sure, the pictures are gorgeous and ofcourse no matter how hard I try at home, I'll never transform myself into Marilyn Monroe without a professional cameraman and hours of airbrushing, but thats not what I loved about the book in the first place. What I did love was Kevyn's easy going style and his loving personality that really came accross and touched me. He never once in the book made any reference to his immense talent... instead, he kept emphasising on the beauty of his subjects. A very refreshing approach by a very unique man. I'd love to meet him even if he wasn't half as succesful and famous as he is today. Dont get me wrong though, the pictures ARE stunning and you'll get a whole load of useful make-up tips. I guarentee though you'll finish loving the man more than his talent!
Book Review: Rating from a current Makeup Artist! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is so wonderful, even for people who are NOT into makeup at all! Even my boyfriend thinks it makes a great coffee table book for everyone to look at. As a makeup artist, this book is like no other. It balances the art of photography, makeup, fantasy and reality. The one thing that I really love about this book the most is that it INSPIRES ME!!!! As a current makeup artist, I agree that there are NO BOUNDARIES when it comes to makeup! It is fun, intruiguing, transforming, and the best part is that it is temporary - you can play with a different look the next day. Kevyn Aucoin is an amazing artist - and this book is a great way to not only learn about makeup, but it allows you to see every possibility available.
