Book Reviews of the Maisy Takes a BathCustomer Review: Nope. Summary: 2 Stars
I have misgivings about this book.
As part of a reading program, I read "Maisy Takes a Bath" to a classroom of seventeen 4-5 year olds in a public school.
I talked with the kids about bubble bath and rubber duckies. I had them spot the rubber duck in the pictures, and being interrupted in the bath is something we can all relate to. So far, so good. But then after interrupting Maisy once, Maisy's friend Talleulah interrupts again, comes in the door without explanation, goes upstairs, takes off her clothes and gets into Maisy's bath.
The kids said "Ewww" in unison, and I felt the same. On the final page, Maisy and Talleulah are in the bath together and they say "Hooray!"
I've got no problem with these little characters sharing a bath. What didn't work for me was that someone would (1) walk into a house uninvited and (2) with no greeting, explanation, or invitation go upstairs and get into someone else's bath. The kids looked baffled/appalled by it. I couldn't find a talking point.
Suggestion: try other Maisy books.
