Book Reviews of Maisy's BedtimeBook Review: A bedtime book with Maisy as the star Summary: 4 Stars
Maisy is a mouse with her own television show on Nickelodeon. The show is done in a narrated style on the adventures of Maisy. The books are based on the Audio Visual Series.
Each book is based on a theme that carries over to the television show. On the left page is the text with the right page showing Maisy doing each task to prepare for bedtime.
Maisy has a toy panda that she likes to cuddle up with and the story starts with Maisy looking at the clock heading up the stairs with panda because they are sleepy and it is time for bed. Maisy wears a green jumper with a blue shirt.
Once Maisy is in her room she walks over to the window to draw the curtains, placing the panda on the windowsill. The owl is outside the window hooting, while we see the stars and the moon one last time before closing the curtains.
Maisy's Bedtime is a easy to follow format for any child to make part of their nightly routine. The similarities and routines for the mouse are the same for children of all ages. I think the only thing missing was going for the drink of water or milk like so many little ones do in stalling the inevitable bedtime.
The book has great vibrant colors that are the same as on the television show. Maisy has the pink ears and tail while Panda is black with the white tummy and face.
It would also be nice to have cassette tapes to go with the books so we could sing the Maisy song and hear the narrator's voice. Other than my two suggestions this is the perfect addition for the family library. Also the features of Maisy and the pictures are very easy to copy with my son drawing pictures of Maisy, plus we have the coloring book.
Book Review: very charming story Summary: 4 Stars
Very sweet story about our favorite mouse getting ready for bed. I love all the books I've read in this series and find the artwork bold and attractive for babies and their parents. The downside for this book: the pages are coated, and they are sturdy enough, but they are paper and not good for tiny babies (ours was 4 months when I bought it, which was too little). The book is also stapled together, which makes it seem less than it is. Finally, and this is picky, I think this is from a DVD and so the images look a little like they are from stills - highly sophisticated stills, but stills nonetheless. Oh, and there's an ad for other Maisy-type books on the last page, in black and white. But it's still a very nice story about all the things a little mouse does before going to bed, and having a routine and reinforcing it are probably great things for us to read about as our girl gets older, so it's still a good purchase.
Book Review: a cute book Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for my 22 month old daughter. She likes the story but is not terribly excited about it. The graphics are cute though and it takes the children through the bedtime routine. The story ends with Maisy remembering she needs to go potty before returning to bed. Seems like this would be a helpful book when we enter potty training stage.
Book Review: Perfect bedtime book for toddlers Summary: 4 Stars
This book tells the story of a regular bedtime routine, simply worded and with bright, colourful pictures. My 2 year old loves it and can easily describe what is happening on each page.
Book Review: Maisy Gets Ready for Bed Summary: 3 Stars
If you are the parent of a young child, you probably know who Maisy is. She's a mouse with a duck, a squirrel, an elephant, and a crocodile for friends. Why the crocodile isn't trying to eat the others is beyond me, but that's life in Maisy's world. Both of my daughters love the Maisy books; there's something about their simple stories and colorful pictures that even appeals to adults. The books are short and easy to read. But, the stories are never obnoxiously simplistic, like so many other books for small children. This is great to read at bedtime, esspecially if you can convince your child to pretend they are Maisy going to sleep. Maisy's preparing for bed and her preparations include a trip to the potty. The first time you see that page, it's actually kind of funny. This is one of my daughters' favorite Maisy books.
