Book Reviews of Magical Thinking: True StoriesBook Review: Laugh out loud by yourself reading this book in public! Summary: 5 Stars
I hardly ever laugh out loud by myself reading a book. Unfortunately, this highly unexpected reaction is what happened to me while I read this on the stationary bike at my gym. A loud guffaw just escaped my mouth before I could stop it. THIS BOOK IS SOOOOO "F"in FUNNY!
I've passed it around my friends. They all love it too. That's all I can say. It's WAY better than "Running with Scissors". You will not be disappointed.
Book Review: Augusten Burroughs should stick with short stories Summary: 5 Stars
Because clearly, that is where his skillset exists. He artfully can tell a short story with poignancy and humor and utter wit. I have read Magical Thinking and Possible Side Effects, as well as Dry, Wolf at the Table and Running with Scissors and it is my opinion that where Mr. Burroughs talent lies is not in writing novels, but in spinning short tales. The longer the book, the bigger his BS factor goes up, in my opinion.
Book Review: HIlarious Summary: 5 Stars
Augusten Burroughs has lived a fascinating life, made more hilarious and fascinating by his story telling. It is a great introduction to his life and writing, although it was not the first to be published. His humor is self-deprecating and sometimes mean, yet still charming, witty and fun. We've all wanted to be able to be as forthright as Burroughs and this is a great way to live that vicariously through him.
Book Review: Still Laughing Summary: 5 Stars
I've read "Running with Scissors" and "Dry," I thought these two books were too funny and the same goes for "Magical Thinking." If you don't get sarcasm or have a warped sense of humor this book is not for you. However, if you don't take things to literal you'll really enjoy this. It was very hard to put down. He tells a whole bunch of stories throughout his life that take place not in any specific order.
Book Review: Funny, real, and twisted! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a huge Burroughs fan. Some have compared him to Sedaris, but I just don't see it. Augusten's humor is uncomparable to any author. Magical thinking, like Running With Scissors, Dry, and Possible Side Effects, had me laughing out loud on many occasions. Not only that, but I thought about the books way after I was done reading them. I laughed out loud trying to explain the stories to friends and family.
