Book Reviews of MadelineBook Review: Great classic book, but spot the mistake! Summary: 5 Stars
There is a mistake in this classic book!
I don't know if it was intentionally meant as a joke by the author (to see how many people would notice) or if it was a hastily drawn mistake, but in the picture where the girls had come home AFTER visiting Madeleine in the hospital, they are all standing in line, breaking their bread (before they brush their teeth and go to bed). Count them. When they are breaking their bread there are twelve! In the next three consecutive picture of the girls there are only eleven.
Since we know Madeleine is in the hospital there is an extra little girl in this one picture!
I have never heard or seen any discussion about this and would like to know if any of you has ever noticed it! It has bothered me for years!
Book Review: Charming Little Story Summary: 5 Stars
Madeline has been part of my library for 30 years and she continues to be one of my favorites. My Grandma introduced her to me and I actually named one of my dogs after her! My 2 year old nephew and I read Madeline over and over again and every so often, out of the blue, he'll look up at the ceiling and say "Auntie, the crack looks like a rabbit", and we'll both laugh. This book is a fantastic add to any child's library. It rhymes throughout so it's catchy, but the words and story don't talk down to the child like some books.
Book Review: Classic Summary: 5 Stars
This is such a beloved, classic story to me. My Mommy used to read it to me as a child, and I have the pleasure of reading it to my daughter now. If I could find Madeline wallpaper and all sorts of other Madeline paraphernalia I would most certainly decorate my daughter's nursery in that fashion. I am ecstatic that Ludwig Bemelman's son is continuing his Madeline legacy... Although, I have yet to read Madeline and the Cats of Rome (I did browse the fantastic pictures in the bookstore though).
Book Review: Enjoyable Summary: 5 Stars
I am not a fan of France, nor of Madeline, but this book was given as a gift and I have to say my daughter begs for it and I enjoy it more than I thought. In fact, I am even going to purchase more Madeline books. My only quibble is that the rhyming is often a bit off but to be honest, I think that makes the book more enjoyable and more reflective of the time in which it was actually written. It is a classic after all.

Yet, she becomes the star of the story when her friend comes to see her and she shows them her scar. Thus, in the end all of the children want to have their appendix out. In other words, they all want be accepted.
