Book Reviews of MacArthur's War: A Novel of the Invasion of Japan

Book Review: The invasion that never happened.
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading this book, I was so GLAD that the atomic bombs had been dropped on Japan back in '45. Those bombs had set to a halt so much future suffering and destruction, and that's on our side itself. Anyone who still wants to imagine that dropping the bombs that killed more than 65,000 people and incinerated two Japanese cities was "genocide" or "complete murder" should read this book, especially the parts where it shows hundreds of Japanese suicide aircraft completely ignoring our American air power and plunging like bombs into numerous transports, cruisers, destroyers, and aircraft carriers. Every time a transport explodes, that's a thousand of our men gone instantly, not able to shore up the defenses and replace the dying troops on the beach. Each time a carrier is hit, that's less aircraft on our side to protect us from the flying bombs of death raining down on us. A destroyer is reported to be hit by kamikaze planes and goes down with a broken back in a couple of minutes. A company of Marines lands on the beach with almost 200 men. Hours of fighting later, all of the officers are dead and a gunnery sergeant is commanding the company, which is down to less than 20 survivors. And the people who think that dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki should realize that all the Americans who are dying in these disaster scenes are the men who were SUPPOSED to live. They are the same men who were able to go home when the war was over because they NEVER had to invade Japan under enemy fire. My father served in the Europe campaign and his unit was due to transfer to the Pacific for the scheduled OPERATION OLYMPIC, which was to invade the home islands. Given the extent of the estimated casualty list(1 million U.S. dead), my father might not have ever returned home alive, and many others never would have. People like me, and numerous others, would have never been born as a result.

So to those who still think that dropping a couple of atom bombs was a mistake, you better read this book and the horrors of war that our men would've encountered will be ingrained in your brain. This book is action-packed and it only can make you think about one question:
If we were forced to invade Japan, would you even be alive today as the result?

Summary of MacArthur's War: A Novel of the Invasion of Japan

Just as Fox on the Rhine and Fox at the Front showed readers an alternate Europe in which Hitler had been killed, thereby radically changing the course of World War II, Douglas Niles and Michael Dobson bring us the Battle of Midway with a very different outcome.

The Allies are wildly out maneuvered and sent home in disgrace. Back in the States things are looking rather grim as the ultra-secret Manhattan Project runs into snafus that greatly delay the final production of the atomic bomb.

President Roosevelt?s approval ratings drop dramatically. Congress is desperate and the country cries out for a hero.

That hero might just be Douglas MacArthur, who vowed that he would return to his beloved Philippines. He plans to do so with the backing of the entire US Armed Forces.

MacArthur?s plan of action is simple: take the war back to the Japanese, island by bloody island, until standing on the shores of Japan, he can proclaim victory.

And possibly gain the leadership of the United States as well.
