Book Reviews of Mac OS X Tiger: Missing Manual

Book Review: Another, Pogue Predictably Perfect Product
Summary: 5 Stars

Having purchased many of his Mac books over the years, I didn't expect anything less from Mr. Pogue this time around. As a fellow author, I also understand what goes into the research and production of a work of this kind. It's well layed out, methodical and complete. He includes surprises such as the items, now missing, that used to be part of the Mac OS arsenal and an explanation of where they went or became.
The index is thorough and overall, it's well worth investing in, if you are using Tiger. It dropped the usual CD and it's not missed, as they refer you to the website. Kudos, Dave.

Book Review: Pretty Good Tutorial
Summary: 5 Stars

Having switched from a PC a year ago and having suffered through 12 months with no manual, it is a relief to have it. It is written in plain English, very basic intro to Tiger OS X and should absolutely have been provided to customers free with the computer. Apple is too cute in assuming everyone, of course, is intuitive about "getting" its system. If you've spent much time in PC land it is a huge transition. This book is great because it assumes no knowledge and provides basic definitions. I also bought another "Missing Manual" for iPhoto and that was helpful, as well.

Book Review: BEST BUY!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased my first mac 8 months ago, and in the meantime was using only the most basic functions, using the online help. However, buying this book has opened up a whole new world of what the mac can do. I can see now why mac users are so hooked on macs, beyond the obvious virus-minimisation benefits. This book is easy to read and follow, covers the subject matter most comprehensively and, as the title of the series says, should have been in the box. Buying this guide is the best decision, as now I can get the most out of owning the mac. Well done David Pogue!!

Book Review: What should have shipped with Mac OS X
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased an older iMac G4 (iLamp) so I could get my bearings with the Mac. I have never owned a Mac and my time on the OS has been very limited, thus I needed a resource to guide me through some of the details of moving around the OS. This book has definitely fit the bill. It is well written and very detailed. It provides more than enough information to get your system configured and running smoothly. More importantly it gets you comfortable with the OS, which is extremely hard to do in a book. This book, however, does just that!

Book Review: A true Super Classic
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are a MacOS X owner and user it will be a criminal act of unforgivable consequences not to own this treasure of totally practical info. But this is not a book for total beginners. This Manual belongs to the really intelligent.I guess you are not stupid if you are an Apple Inc. fan but thats not enough in this case. All you have to do is read and practise! Tiger's knowledge is imperative, especially now when Jobs moves faster than ever into the silicon jungle to encounter more demanding animals of the mind.
