Book Reviews of Loving Frank: A NovelBook Review: Wow! Great Read Summary: 5 Stars
A friend recommended this book and I am glad she did.
Although the premise is based on history that could be found through some old newspaper articles...some of the information only recently came to light.
I had no idea about this part of Frank Lloyd Wrights history and the woman who played a part in it (won't put the spoilers in but if you know more about his life than I did you may not be surprised).
I haven't had a book that was this hard to put down since Memoirs of a Geisha and Lovely Bones (both good reads too).
This would make a good choice for a book club read and worth taking on that beach vacation.
Book Review: One of the best books I've read lately Summary: 5 Stars
Having visited Fallingwater three times now, I'm a big fan of Frank Lloyd Wright. He was a creative genius who had a huge influence on American architecture. When I read a second review praising Nancy Horan's book, I decided to get it. She has done a superb job of imagining Mameh's thoughts about her life and the complications of her affair with Wright. It was a bonus to read about the "Woman Movement" in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century when Mameh translated Swedish books for the American market. Since I'd forgotten the ending of their affair, I was dumbstuck by how it unfolded. Horan is an excellent writer.
Book Review: love, tragedy, historical fiction Summary: 5 Stars
Every once in awhile, I read an engrossing book that I don't want to put down. "Loving Frank" is a page turner. Outlining a short period of history when Frank Lloyd Wright was involved with a woman outside of marriage, this book is romanticised a bit, but otherwide sticks to historical fact. The reader gains insight into Frank Lloyd Wright's character and his relationship with Maymah Cheney, a strong woman who in the name of love, rejects the life that society expects of her.
After reading this book, it is hard to move on to something else. It's that good! An excellent choice for summer reading.
Book Review: Enlightening Summary: 5 Stars
I never was aware about the life of Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Borthwick..I only knew of his talents as an architect.
It was a good read, but how could ANYONE leave their children and run off with another man...to me that was totally irresponsible and unthinkable.
She may have re-thought her decision the last time she went to visit her children since they almost totally ignored her and were just being polite, but it was too late.
And....the ending....oh my...what a tragedy...my question, though, is this: Did that really happen at Taliesin?
Book Review: Loving Frank is loving this book. Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this book. It takes you into a world of a genius and makes him human and yet brilliant. It makesyou understand his genius and see a new side of his passions. Driven with a love for nature, you now see his love for another human. He went with his passions and remained truw to his nature and his love of nature. This book is excellent. It makes me want to search out his works and go to see Falling Water. Thank gawd I live in Pittsburgh, and I can see it anytime. I have passed this book onto others, it is worth sharing with as many of people who love nature, art and genius.
