Book Reviews of Loving Frank: A NovelBook Review: Great write! Summary: 5 Stars
Loving Frank is a combination between a historical fiction and a romance. It is based on the love affair that took place from 1907 to 1914 between the prominent architect Frank Lloyd Wright and his client, Mamah Borthwick.
Mamah Borthwick is a married woman when she starts her love affair with Wright.
Wright was hired by the Cheneys to design and build a house for them when he developed a relation with Mamah. Both Mamah and Frank ended up leaving their families and living together.
Mamah is described as an independent woman on a journey of self-discovery.
The writer depicts very realistic characters. This is a great write!

Book Review: Loving Frank Summary: 5 Stars
I really enjoyed reading this book, and I would look for more books written by this author and also about Frank Lloyd Wright. I have visited one of his homes in the mountains of Colorado, and I found it a fascinating design. This was many years ago, but I thought about this home often as I was reading this book. "Loving Frank" isn't only about Frank Lloyd Wright, it is about the love of his life (not his wife) and the affair they carried on. It was in the early 1900's so this living together was not acceptable at all. Mamah Borthwick Cheney was part of an early women's movement. Both she and Frank were very intelligent people and shared many interests, including the pain of not living with their respective children.
Book Review: Loving Frank Summary: 5 Stars
We read this book for our book club, and we mature women all agreed it was a very good book. We liked the historical pictures, newspaper clippings, and the fascinating insight the author delved into concerning the architectural works of the brilliant Frank Lloyd Wright. While loving Frank, and walking away from all she had by way of traditional motherhood and marriage, Maymah portrays a woman who is progressive, yet scandalized. One of the better books for a provocative discussion over coffee, for those of us who lived the women's rights movements, and still bemoan the glass ceiling... still discussing women's issues, as we venture along the way to the next rural homemakers club!
Book Review: Historical Fiction At Its Best Summary: 5 Stars
Loving Frank is truly historical fiction at its best. The story of Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Borthwick Cheney is told with depth and insight by Nancy Horan. Although a fictionalized account of their life and time together, Ms. Horan makes the reader feel as if he/she is a witness to all that transpires. Much has been written about Frank Lloyd Wright, but little has been written about Mamah Borthwick Cheney, who was a bright and unconventional woman ahead of her time. Ms. Horan's depiction of their life together is credible and feels very real. Portraying Frank Lloyd Wright through the eyes of the woman he loves allows us to see the legend in a very human way.
Book Review: Captivating, enlightening novel Summary: 5 Stars
To put it simply, I absolutely LOVED Loving Frank. Nancy Horan is clearly a gifted writer in that she has a great command of the language but is also accessible to any reader. I couldn't put this book down. I knew very little of Frank Lloyd Wright and found myself searching the internet for photos of his architecture (it is frequently beautifully described in the book). No one in my all-female book club agreed with Mamah's decision to leave her children, but we all couldn't help but like her. Everyone said this is one of the best books our club has ever read in our nearly ten years! I love books that educate me AND entertain me. Loving Frank did both beautifully.
