Okay Moms!!!! We may be on to something here and just don't know it yet. My fifteen year old daughter has just finished book one, book two, and is calling me at work begging me to go pick up book three for her so she can find out what happens with Missy and Willie... Isn't this what we want our teens to be reading in a world where sex, love, and morals have just sort of crashed and collided into each other? I am not a Bible thumper, I am not an activist for religion in any way, however, I am all about the things my daughter puts into her head which in turn, makes its way to her heart, thus causing her mouth to say what is in the heart.... get it?!? In with good, out with good. Right now my daughter is in love with the lead male character of this book and it is refreshing for me to see her in love with a young boy who has morals, respect, does not wear his jeans at his ankles, and his ears aren't pierced and gaged. She is in love with the gentleness by which he is portrayed by Janette Oke. Now that my daughter has this character in her mind's eye, she can seek out something more in a young man based on honor, integrity, and goodness. She can find Willie in our world and time if she wants to. What a book! My daughter is not one of these nerd types with no friends who reads all the time, on the contrary, she is popular, smart, a cheerleader, and a very physically attractive girl who can and will make choices for herself that will affect her for eternity. I do think giving her books to read like this is wonderful and will help shape her thoughts and desires. I bought the first book, Love Comes Softly, a year ago and she said I was a crazy if I thought she was reading this crap..... then she became bored over Christmas break stuck in the house due to an ice storm, decided to read it, she loved it, begged for book 2, the rest is history. I really believe that the messages that are sent to a young girl's heart from out side influences is crucial, I also feel like we got lucky with specific outside influences such as this book. If you have a teenager, give her this book reguardless of what she tells you. It has changed our daughter's perspective of boys.. and my how priceless that is. I love Janette Oke for giving us the gift of gentle romantic love that seems to have been lost in the teen culture. I learned something scary while watching my daugher with these books, she really needs the gentleness and beauty of pure love. Where has it gone?
