Book Reviews of Lose Weight Now (Diviniti)Book Review: OK, but Mind Over Platter is better for me. Summary: 3 Stars
This is the first time I've bought a hypnosis CD. I read a book on self-hypnosis some 30+ years ago and dabbled a bit with it, but now that I need to lose 50+ lbs (I lost 75 lbs 7 years ago, but have gained most of it back), I haven't been able to sustain the concentration to do it. So I got this CD, the Mind Over Platter CD by Rosa Smith-Montanaro, and a general health-oriented CD from the Beverly Hills Hypnosis series. I also got the book, Monsters and Magical Sticks: There's No Such Thing as Hypnosis? by Heller and Steele.
This one is the first CD that I listened to.
The music that starts and ends the sessions is kind of 70's hokey, but is not present for most of the session. The speaker has an accent (maybe Australian or South African?), which is slightly distracting but nothing I couldn't get used to. There were a couple of places where I didn't understand what he was saying, but one of them I figured out, and the other was one of the "subliminal" suggestions that I recognized on the CD insert afterwards. In either case, on future listenings inability to understand wouldn't be an issue.
My biggest problems were 1) I found his visualization path didn't match my own (for example, he suggested seeing yourself in a mirror, whereupon I saw myself naked or in my underwear; then he added "in your nice new outfit", which of course clashed with my own image); 2) for some reason, I found myself arguing with him in my thoughts - I can't remember even about what; and 3) his voice made me feel sluggish and heavy -- exactly the opposite of what I know works for me when losing weight.
I did finish the session awake and alert and with no desire to eat, but I've been getting some of that over the course of the last week just in anticipation of the CDs' arrival. Plus, I've only listened to the CD once, since I so much preferred the Mind Over Platter CD.
Book Review: It's ok... Summary: 3 Stars
Well, I was definitely skeptical about using a hypnosis CD, but I thought if anything it would instill some positive reinforcements. It is a soothing CD to listen to, and I would think of some of the key phrases throughout my day, but other than that, I think it would be better used for relaxation rather than weight loss.
Book Review: coaching Summary: 3 Stars
It helps if you use it everyday. Like listening to a coach. I can see a differance in my eating habits.
Book Review: Did not work for me Summary: 2 Stars
I guess it is a hit or miss with this kind of things...
For me it is a miss...
Honestly, I have a hard time believing that repeating to me that I am feeling good, safe, beautiful or anything else is going to prove true...
His voice is not specifically annoying or anything like that...
I guess I am not suggestible enough for it to be effective with me.
Book Review: OK BUT Summary: 2 Stars
If you would be jolted by a male voice telling you how much more attractive you would be if you lost weight, don't buy this CD. There are plenty of other programs that emphasize treating your body well because you appreciate it NOW.
