Book Review: A Wonderful Friendship

This is the next Hornblower chronologically, it was not the next one written. Now that the series is completed it makes sense to read it as Hornblower's career progresses in the Royal Navy.
The whole series is a pleasure to read full of action and adventure; with enough time for a little romance.
Get acquainted with one of the most popular characters in modern literature.
After reading this you will be back for more. And that is a wonderful thing.

I have began reading the Horatio Hornblower saga, but I have a few questions. How many books are there and in what order do they come. I am reading Mr. Midshipman Hornblower. I know that the next one is Lieutenant Hornblower, but I have unable to locate this one in my local library or on Amazon books. I have now read all but one of the Hornblower series, and there's not a clinker in the lot. This book is just as good as the others and I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. Hornblower's combination of ingenious daring and wracking self-doubt make him one of my favorite literary characters. I do, however, recommend that the series be read in order, just to preserve the suspense.Book Review: The best of the series

I prefer more mainstream historical fiction like "The Triumph and the Glory" or "Cold Mountain" to tightly focused sea tales like Forester's Hornblower series. But the Hornblower books are SO WELL DONE that I just can't resist them. Lord Hornblower tops a very good list of Hornblower books, it, only Hornblower During the Crisis is nearly as good.Book Review: If you have gotten this far, forget quitting

Get this one and see if it quells your appetite. It won't, but you'll be in the company of the rest of us. Read it again in a couple of years. I've done it half a dozen times.
