Book Reviews of Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger'sBook Review: What insight; All should read Summary: 5 Stars
This book is so very well written; it is presented in a series of short stories. I can't say enough about how good this book is. It presents insights not only in the sense of Aspergers but just general insight in psychology. Everyone should read this -- but particularly those interested in the human mind, psychology, human-social-perception or those who know people who have Aspergers.
Abstracting away from psychology, the book is filled with entertaining, funny, sad and heartfelt stories. I found many connections to my own life which (I think) allowed me to further appreciate the stories.
Book Review: Excellent book for parents of Asperger's children! Summary: 5 Stars
This book was very enlightening to me, especially as a parent of a recently diagnosed Asperger's child. To read of John Elder's childhood experiences from his point of view gave me such a different perspective. I gave copies of the book to my child's teachers since they are all new at working with forms of autism and it's been helpful. A friend of mine read the book and now believes he has Asperger's (he read the electronics section about the KISS projects and totally understood what the author had written!). I really enjoyed the book -- relatively easy reading but so eye-opening.
Book Review: A Favorite Book Summary: 5 Stars
My husband Todd and I both read Look Me in the Eye and loved it. I was delighted with John's humor and wit when he told stories about his family and creating guitars for various rock groups, including Kiss. My husband is a musician, so he had a particular affection for John's stories. I smiled through most of this book and also learned a lot along the way. John is definitely a "real" and lovable person. Whether you know someone with Asperger's Syndrome or not, Look Me in the Eye will give you a new perspective on people and on life, and you will have a great time reading it.
Book Review: Great Book! Great storyteller. Summary: 5 Stars
This was a fantastic book. The author has a unique perspective on life based on the fact that he has asperger's but apart from that, he is a wonderful story teller. He has had some cool jobs and has been associated with some interesting people, from his degenerate parents to touring with KISS, but all in all his life has been pretty ordinary.
In short, this is a wonderfully written memoir written by a pretty normal guy who lives a pretty normal life and just so happens to be an excellent writer (oh yeah, and he has asperger's).
Great read, highly recommended.
Book Review: Exceptional Book Summary: 5 Stars
What a wonderful book! Author is a great storyteller and this is a really good read. We have Asperger's in our family, so we were especially interested in his stories and perspective. Several members of my family have read the book and we highly recommend it. I'm glad it is being used in schools, as I think everyone needs to be educated about the differences in individuals, and understanding more about autism and Asperger's will go a long way in developing compassion and helping families.
