Book Reviews of Lonely Planet Panama (Country Guide)

Book Review: Dont waster your money on this one
Summary: 2 Stars

I found this book to be completely misleading. It is also very much out of date. The hotels and places to stay were at least 50-150 over what was written here. the reviews of the places were not accurate as well. I would absolutely read blogs for accurate info regarding travel here. We dont think we will ever purchase Lonely Planet books again because this book was so off target

Book Review: Ridiculously out of date
Summary: 2 Stars

I normally love LP, but I can't believe they published this edition with so much out-of-date information. We wasted a LOT of time trying to find places that no longer existed or had moved. I would strongly urge against buying this book until they properly update it, unless you're just looking for general background information on the country.

Book Review: a throw away
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased the previous edition of the Panama Guide from the Lonely Planet a few years ago when I started to become a frequent visitor to Panama. That older edition offered alot of helpful information and I used it frequently.

Due to the rapid changes in Panama - i thought I needed to purchase an updated version to reflect the new hotels and rates and things to do . . . .

whoever allowed this latest edition to be published should just be ashamed. Panama has been growing and changing at an alarming rate over the last few years. This recent guide does little to reflect new places to stay, things to do and current rates. i got the impression that whoever revised it - did not even step foot in Panama, or if they did, did not spend much time there. did they just put a new cover on the old material?

Anyway - I was really disappointed and will not even give it away to friends who are visiting Panama because the information is lacking so much of what could add to a great experience in this wonderful country - especially for lodging options.

Lonely Planet - You really should spend a little more time in the country - i would say to trash this edition and start over.

Book Review: so outdated it is embarassing
Summary: 1 Stars

Living part time in Panama, i purchased this book to help me find out more interesting places to visit throughout the country. The information was so out of date I am embarrassed for the publishers. I have purchased Lonely Planet guides for decades, but no more. In this case, the new writer rehashes the same old information, and seems to never venture beyond the less traveled roads. Such an anti Lonely Planet thing to do. Matthew Firestone needs to get out from the popular surfers hangouts, and provide us with a better and more rounded sense of what is going on rather than what he has done in this last pathetic version.
From now on it is Moon Books for me!

Book Review: outdated book that is NOT new and needs massive updates
Summary: 1 Stars

we traveled in panama for a month using this book. EVERY person we spoke with who was using/had used the LP panama book was dissapointed. Hotel owners complained that they had been asking LP to update their prices and info for years. Directions to places were non existent and lacking maps.

There is however, a positive side to this. We found several people who were using the moon guide. although obnoxiously large, the information was well laid out, informative, CORRECT, and the maps/directions were so helpful.

save yourself the money and trouble, buy the moon book.
