Book Reviews of Lion Boy (Lion Boy Trilogy, Book 1)

Book Review: Beyond the story
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this book because my niece has a great interest in cats. I read it before I gave it to her 11yo daughter. I was pleased with the story itself. Its featured character was young in age and personality, so young people can associate with him as the plot progressed. The supporting characters had a nice variety of personalities that contrast. The unconventional persons (sometimes cats) presented to young impressionable people something else to consider besides rejection when they meet an unconventional person. The bad persons clearly stood out from the good persons. This plants the idea in the minds of young impressionable people the idea to consider the important things when confronted with similar personalities. In particular, to ignore the skin on the outside and view the crucial characteristics to determine whether a person is good and bad.

Related to this, one of the themes of this book is racism. It is not very explicit, because explicit racism is only seen skin deep. This book treats the deeper feelings of racism and its effects on people. This is a unique approach. So it does not talk about racism, but rather about behavior in the context of good and bad.

The theme that I think is especially good was the reaction of the featured character when he was presented with various problems. His first reaction would be to avoid panic and thoughtfully analyze the situation. He then reviewed his resources and possible solutions. Sometimes there was not a 'good' solution so he had to select the best action available which eventually led to a livable solution.

So now it is on to the next in the trilogy. (Hint to author: I am looking forward to the dog trilogy. I suspect my grand-niece is looking forward to the horse trilogy.)

Summary of Lion Boy (Lion Boy Trilogy, Book 1)

What do you do when you come home one day and discover that your parents have been kidnapped? Well, if you?re a brave young guy named Charlie Ashanti, you go off in search of them. And since you happen to know how to speak Cat, your feline friends?the stray cats of the city and the caged lions on a magnificent, astounding floating circus?rally around you, bringing help, advice, and occasional special deliveries. Little do you know that in this search of yours, the fate of the world is at stake.

From an exciting new mother/daughter writing team comes this captivating adventure full of heroes, villains, and astounding events. Set in a near future that blends the familiar and the new in unexpected, intriguing ways, Lionboy is an exhilarating, suspenseful whirlwind of a novel?a book destined to become a classic.

Mysteriously missing parents, a boy who speaks Cat, an extraordinary floating circus, and a handsome hoodlum villain...get ready for one of the most spectacular adventure stories around! When young Charlie Ashanti returns home one day to find an empty house, he launches immediately into the journey of a lifetime. Sleazy Rafi, a teenage boy who can usually be found lurking around the playground, shows up, claiming that Charlie?s parents have gone on a trip. Our hero plays dumb and quickly escapes Rafi?s clutches only to find himself stowed away on the most remarkable ship the Thames River has ever kept afloat. Taking advantage of his astonishing ability to speak the language of cats, Charlie sets in motion a chain of communication from London to Paris via scruffy alley toms, fluffy lap kitties, and even a ferocious lion or two. Along the way, the clever boy manages to stay one step ahead of the rogues pursuing him, but unfortunately always one step behind his parents.!

Penned by a mother/daughter team who call themselves Zizou Corder, Lion Boy is the first in a trilogy that is bound to become a classic. Readers will shriek when they read the evil yet tantalizing words at the conclusion--"To Be Continued..."--and won?t rest until they get their hands on all three breathtaking, funny, well-written titles.
