Book Reviews of Light on Yoga: Yoga DipikaBook Review: A True Classic Summary: 5 Stars
If your budget will allow only a few books on the subject of Yoga, then this should be one of them. The reading at the beginning of the book is just as useful and informative as the pictures of the postures. I began my love for Yoga with this book. Because most of them require extreme flexibility, You won't be able to do all the postures. A close approximation suited to your own body type will do. I guarantee you will fall in love with this book as I did.
Book Review: My original copy of this book is probably older than you are Summary: 5 Stars
This is the definitive Hatha Yoga manual - with some discussion of Pranayama (although his Light on Pranayama covers that subject in detail). A gentle man. A general when instructing. He is the father of a modern hatha yoga based on the eight-limbed yoga of Patanjali. How far back does the yoga tradition extend? Past the Upanishads, past the Vedas, past the Indus valley and into the mists of pre-history. Yoga is not a fad, unless humanity is.
Book Review: If I could have only one yoga book this would be it. Summary: 5 Stars
If you want to know all the important yoga asana and have photographs and descriptions of them all, this is it. I would suggest you buy this book and memorize it. Mr Iyengar is a master of his art and even though this book is now quite old and the illustrations would be considered weak by modern standards, this is the one. There is nothing to beat it. I am not unbiased here. I am a certified teacher, but you did ask to see my opinion!
Book Review: Truly the Yoga "Bible" Summary: 5 Stars
B.K.S. Iyengar is a master. In this book, he shares his wisdom in straightforward language. Likewise, his asana instruction is clear and direct, even including a 1-60 intensity guide for each pose. I highly recommend this book to any serious yoga practicioner and every responsible yoga instructor.--Dana Edison, author and creator of "Dana Edison's Yoga Is Not One Size Fits All Custom Practice Journal" and audio instruction series.
Book Review: Essential, but not for beginners Summary: 5 Stars
The "bible" for serious hatha yoga practitioners, although you probably will never be able to achieve a large percentage of the postures illustrated. At least, I won't! It is still the authoritative source for performing each posture correctly. One of his later books, "Yoga, the Path to Holistic Health," has wonderful 360-degree views of the "classic" postures, but it's a huge hardback that is impossible to carry with you.
