Book Reviews of Life with My Sister MadonnaBook Review: Interesting Author, But Ultimately Disappointing Summary: 3 Stars
I am intrigued by Madonna's public persona, but indifferent to her talents. I've only heard Madonna's music by accident, and I've never seen her act. I thought Christopher Ciccone's story would be interesting, and it was. Unfortunately, Christopher never takes full responsibility for his dependence on his sister. He laments that he can't be appreciated for his own talents, but that's not precisely true. He could have lived his own independent life anytime he insisted on it. He could have changed his name [as Paul McCartney's brother did] and stayed away from show business. If Christopher had done this, he would have led a quieter life. In that life, there would be no super models, no snorting cocaine with Donatella Versace and Courtney Love, no dinners with Sting or Warren Beatty. He had every right to choose life with the glamourous crowd, but it's bad sportsmanship to complain afterward that he was used by his bitchy, stingy sister. He knew, better than anyone else, what to expect from her. He wanted into her party, and he knew the price of admission.
Book Review: BooHoo Summary: 3 Stars
Boo Hoo! Give this guy a box of tissue. While it's an interesting book, the author contridicts himself over and over. It's OBVIOUSLY a cry for attention. After reading it your left wondering is he being truthful or totally making this stuff up while trying to make money off of his sister?? Hmmmmm......
Book Review: Should be titled "A Discourse for Why I Needed Therapy" Summary: 2 Stars
I just finished the book. The biggest impression I walked away with from this book is that Christopher Ciccone has serious mental problems. He is completely oblivious about his role in how Madonna treated him. When you are as weak and spineless as this guy, it's like you are asking the world to kick you in the behind everyday. He constantly tells Madonna things she wants to hear, that he doesn't believe, and then calls Ingrid Casares a sycophant. What's the point of saying all those nice things if you are going to stab the person in the back years later with a book? Also he has no identity, not because she is his sister, the other relatives manage just fine. He has no identity b/c he worships her in a sick and unhealthy way. His every excuse for his weak and spineless behavior is that he was her brother and he wanted to be there for her.
My favorite was how Madonna kept insisting he had drug problems and he insisted he didn't. Meanwhile before the whole drug question comes in, he has enough money to pay his ex-lover 100k in some weird palimony arrangement but later on he doesn't have a pot to piss in and this is coincidentally when Madonna thinks he has a drug problem. Of course he had drug problems. Then at the end after being bitter and vengeful, betraying his sister's trust in the worst way with a tell-all book and blaming her b/c he's too much of a wimp to speak up for himself for 25 years, in the epilogue he tries to convince us he loves her and would never hurt her and is over the bad stuff. Yeah right keep telling yourself that Chrissy.
Meanwhile it was a page-turner but I feel I didn't discover anything new....Madonna is ambitious and does things for shock value and for appearance sake. She is a perfectionist and at times has a temper. Her fame is difficult on her and those around her...okay next!
If you want to read about some serious passive-aggressive behavior and some boring details how about how talented CC think he is, then this book is for you and you should go out and buy it and support this parasite. He needs the money for the on-going therapy for the trauma of dressing his sister and wiping away her sweat off b/c a gun was put to his head which made him do this. He tries so hard to get empathy that even with the book written by him to make his case, he still looks like the worst kind of pathetic, weak, untrustworthy person.
Book Review: Christopher Ciccone is whiner! Summary: 2 Stars
God, Christopher Ciccone is whiny. And catty. There is really no new information about Madonna in this book, it's just Christopher whining about how she's mistreated him all these years. Basically, every time he works for her, she rips him off (doesn't pay him fairly, replaces him at the last minute, etc.) You know what - then quit working for her! Christopher can't do that though because he has no formal training to do ANYTHING. Madonna lets him dance in her videos, design her houses, dress her for her tours, art direct her tours and gets her friends to give him gallery shows, even though he's never formally trained do any of that (except dance). And all he does is bitch about how horrible it is to work for her. I'm not a huge Madonna fan; I just read this book because I like reading about the entertainment business and stars in general. But there was nothing new here - almost nothing about Madonna's childhood, no insights into her personality. I really don't think Madonna and Christopher were ever that close, even though they spent a lot of time together, because he relates virtual nothing about Madonna's personal life. Or else he was never paying attention what was going on in it because he's just as self-absorbed as she is.
Book Review: Poor Whittle Christopher... Summary: 2 Stars
This dude is a sour puss. While there is a lot of fun insider-info and re-living of all the stages of Madonna's career, the overall feeling and theme is "poor me." Poor me that Madonna thinks I am a drug addict. Poor me that Madonna paid for me to go to rehab and I went but I'm still not a drug addict(???). Poor me that in 2003 Madonna made a gajillion dollars and didnt give me any. Poor me that in 2004 Madonna made a cajillion dollars and didnt give me any. Poor me that in 2005 Madonna made a bizillion dollars and didnt give me any. I hope he has a good therapist to help him get through his bitterness, anger and resentment and ridiculous sense of entitlement.
