Book Reviews of Life with My Sister MadonnaBook Review: ....I've Heard It All Before, This Ain't Nothin' New...... Summary: 5 Stars
it sure is a heck of a lot of fun!
......my 2008 Summer of Fun book......absolutely nothing I did not expect to know about my luv Madonna.......nothing surprising & revelatory.......If Christopher is to be believed, Madge comes across as narcissistic.....demanding.......spoiled.......and the Centre of the Universe, which is exactly as it should be......I've loved this woman's' art for so many years now and she keeps getting better & better.....witness the phenomenal success of "Hard Candy"........a bit of sour grapes from Christopher I detected and towards the late 90's-early 2000 becomes a bit of a bore hearing about him & Demi...him & Gwyneth......him & Ingrid, etc.......love the parts about him doing coke with Donatella & Jack Nicholson......like last years Tina Brown's Dianna book, this one is a two-day read on the beach & quite a bit of fun along the way.......

Book Review: Madonna Fan Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good book for Madonna fans, you do get a rare glimpse at what makes her tick. But of course it is one sided, and no matter all of Christopher's accolades to his sister it seems like he always follows with a but..He might say she really helped me and gave me opportunity but she didn't put me up in a suite but rather a small room, she didn't pay me enough, she didn't give enough to my grandma, she didn't give money for all my projects. She has a lot of demands on her and just because she is rich doesn't mean she should give her money away. It is because she is smart and doens't do that, that she has the money. He can come off so 'winey'. He should have been able to segue his directing of Madonna's show's
to other artist's show's and made his own way apart from her. Other people who have successful family can find their own success like Michael and Janet Jackson or Stella McCartney..whoever, it is possible.
Book Review: A Sympathetic Look At One of the World's Biggest Pop Stars Summary: 5 Stars
While at the Hong Kong International Airport last week, waiting to board a 7 hour flight to Dubai, this book jumped out at me. I had vaguely remembered Perez Hilton saying something about this book on his website and as it seemed a relatively thick book, I bought it. I spent the majority of the plane ride engrossed in this riveting novel of how Madonna created herself from nothing and how Christopher managed to come along for the ride in the early part of her career. I think Madonna is portrayed fairly, honestly and sympathetically and at no point do I feel like I am reading an attack on her that was written by her brother. Reading about her early life as a modern dancer and the track parties she used to do in clubs in New York was really interesting, as was learning more about her marriage to Sean Penn. She comes across as a flawed character, but human and relatable. I devoured this book and would highly recommend it.
Book Review: a real view of the material girl Summary: 5 Stars
This book may be biased from a sibling rivalry, but it still packs a straight forward punch at the real Madonna through her career/personal life adventure.
Christopher is a very easy read, and pulls you into the facinating world of pop megastardom.
Madonna is suprisingly ambiguous in her identity aside from her insatiable desire for fame.
The roots of their Michigan family, the dominance Madonna had over her father's affection, are clear and perceptive. The evolution of their parallel lives reads like great soap opera.
Christopher owes his world to his sister, and she has gained from him.
The story is a familliar one-of dysfunction and love.
I appreciated this book as someone who lived in the east village in the Madonna salad days-and the insights in how she tripped the kights fantastic.
I do not like Madonna-but I liked the book for it's insights and family memories.
Book Review: Great book, fun read, and no fact-checker in sight. Summary: 5 Stars
I really enjoyed reading this book book very much. It's fun, interesting, and a little catty, but I expected that because of the topic. Granted I am not a fan of Madonna's music or her as a person, I don't know her but with this book I feel like I have an idea of what she's like. There is one in every family! If I had to choose between having a drink with Madonna or her brother Chris the author I would pick Chris. At least I know he won't yell at me for something stupid.
My only gripe is some of the fact checking, or lack thereof. It stated that the Charlie Chaplin studios were built "in the thirties" when in reality it was 1919. Formerly A&M RECORDS, now HENSON PRODUCTIONS located at 1416 N. La Brea Avenue, Hollywood, California. Am I being petty? Sure some may say I am, but if this fact isn't actually factual what else got overlooked?
