Book Reviews of Letters to Erik: The Ghost's Love Story

Book Review: Letters to Erik: Eternal Love at Last
Summary: 5 Stars

Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical and I was so swept away by the beauty, music and romance of the 2004 movie. I, like many, had wished the ending had gone a different route. With this book, I feel at peace knowing two great loves have been at last reunited. The author does a splendid job in describing Christine's joys and sorrows through Christine's letters to the Phantom. As the story unfolds, it just calls you back to their world of heavenly romance, humor, challenges and undying love. The banter between the Erik and Kaveh is divine and had me laughing out loud! From the moment I started to read the book, I couldn't put it down. It must have been like how Erik felt reading Christine's letters - you just wanted more! I shall definitely read this book over and over again. I recommend it highly to all the hopeless romantics in the world like me. Miracles come true and deep love is truly worth waiting for. Bravo for the Phantom and Christine for finally reaching the Point of No Return!

Book Review: A wonderful sequel to a beloved story!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a huge Phantom junkie and love so many different variations of the story, but one of my favorite is obviously, the original by Gaston Leroux. Ms. Wallace perfectly intertwines Leroux's work into her novel. Letters to Erik has no outside influence to it. Pure Leroux- No Kay or ALW here, which makes it so refreshing. I know so many of my fellow "phans" are sick of Phantom fiction filled with these things. The book is wonderful-it's heartwarming, tender and loving. Leroux was very heavy on the angst, while Letter's to Erik is very heavy on fluff-but not the cheasy cliche' fluff that fills so much phantom fiction. Oh- and it's not Phantom of Manhattan-a wonderful plus! Ms. Wallace is a wonderful writer-not to lengthy but full of description, which is so refreshing. And although it's completely faithful to Leroux, it is not as if fans of other versions of Phantom cannot enjoy it. Overall, an amazing book that should be in every phan's collection!

Book Review: Intriguing, well written and hard to put down
Summary: 5 Stars

To me, there is so much in Gaston Leroux's "Phantom of the Opera" that isn't said/explored that inspires so many dreams/stories. "Letters to Erik" picks up where GL's story "ends" and was just wonderful to read, well worth the $$$ IMO. R is still whiny and distrustful, Christine still has much growing up to do and separated from Erik, does some deep soul searching on her strange relationship with him. As the story opens, she has been unable to return to Erik after his publicized death to place the ring on his finger at his request. Tormented with grief, Christine puts her feelings and thoughts to pen in letters "to Erik", the only way she feels she can connect with him. I'll reveal no more here, the story unfurls wonderfully, such a delight to read. I will say there is a surprise at the end that I didn't see coming that I am sure readers will truly enjoy! An Wallace did a great job; this is a story I plan on enjoying over and over, BRAVA!

Book Review: An extremely pleasant surprise
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a long-time fan of Leroux's original novel, and this is the first other published book about Erik and Christine that I've ever read: it went far beyond my better expectations! The author is clearly a great knower of the original work, and her tale gives it the conclusion I always wished by both mantaining the main characters themselves, while making them grow and mature, in the case of Christine. The style of writing is nice and flooding, while enriched the operas original quotes well-used, and even the most apparently excessive and unbelievable plot-twists and coincidence just give to it a XIXth novel feeling. I particulary loved the author's telling of Erik's life, all of it well in the boundaries of what Leroux told us, and yet enriched, made more real, more alive... a great read! Only flaw in my personal opinion is that, well... it ended too soon: I wish I could have read a whole description of Erik and Christine's life together.

Book Review: A love story
Summary: 5 Stars

Seldom do I feel compelled to tell an author what a fantastic job he/she has done, but Ms. Wallace deserves the highest praise for her latest installment in the ever growing genre of Phantom fiction!! Bravo! From glancing at the first page, I was hooked, and found myself unable to put it down. Ms. Wallace's love of the characters and Leroux's book is obvious in her care of personality development for her people; her style of wording, simple yet compelling, just draws the reader into the story, and we definitely want to know more!
As I am a bit obsessed with Erik myself, having finished a story recently as well,it is nice to know that there are authors out there who truly make the effort at understanding the motivations of the man, and do their research! Bravo to Ms. Wallace. This is the one to put on your shelf and pick up, again and again.
