Book Reviews of Letter to a Christian NationBook Review: wow! must read Summary: 5 Stars
I challenge believers/devotees to read this book and be humble about life.
It's a quick powerful essay which takes less than 2 hours to read. (120 pages)
Brilliant essay which raises serious questions which require public debate and resolution.
Sam makes the case for a non-sectarian future; a future of secular states which maintain a strict separation between church and state and hopefully a world in which less people have an emotional or psychological need to believe the myths and lies told by the clergy.
Book Review: Good Book Summary: 5 Stars
The above title was chosen with tungue-in-cheek as most Chrisrians refer to their bible as the "Good Book"
I was brought up in a Christian family but never accepted the teaching or mythology. In fact I came to the belief that over the course of human history more harm than good has been done in the name of religion, Christianity included. I live in the middle of the Bible Belt, surrounded by fundamentalist beleivers. I bought this book looking for talking points when being preached at. It has helped.
Book Review: Overwhelming for the subject Summary: 5 Stars
After reading Harris's book as well as Dawkins, Hitchens, et. al., and growing up Catholic, I have to conclude the following...
1 - Man created gods out of ignorance of nature
2 - Man uses gods to control other men
3 - Language allows man to be oh so eloquent when defending the talking snake
4 - God really does hate amputees.
Please, people....if you don't really know the answer, just take a breath and say "I don't know."
Book Review: Very concise, very good Summary: 5 Stars
Unlike Dawkins and Hitchens, whose conceit is such that I can't take seriously anything their saying, Harris gets his point across quite well with a minimum of sarcasm. He is to the point with issues that should concern all Christians, and it isn't filled with the same hatred or anger of a lot of similar works.
I have not read 'The End of Faith' but I plan to now. A friend of mine who didn't like this book says that one is even better.
Book Review: Sam you are a GENIUS!! Summary: 5 Stars
Having been born and raised in an evangelical household and deciding at age 13 that christianity and all other religions made no sense at all to me, I now at age 68 feel like I've read, for the first time, a book that truly tells it like it is!! This book brilliantly reveals the absurdities and dangers of christianity and other equally ridiculous religions. The more people "get this", the better our world will be!!
