Book Reviews of Letter to a Christian NationBook Review: Thank you Summary: 5 Stars
Thank you Mr Harris for such a useful book. Growing up in Christendom I read many little books called tracts that tried to provoke readers to consider their impending doom in a lake of fire. This is the first book I've seen arguing for reason in the same manner. The night I read it I immediately ordered ten more copies and have given all but one away. I am online now to buy a few more. Someday, men and women will move on past their last few gods as they once did with Zeus and Ra. I'm certain this book has aided and will continue to help many along that road of progress.
Book Review: A must read for everyone!! Summary: 5 Stars
This book should be read after his first: "The End of Faith".
In reading these two books I was amazed to find that for the first time in my life I agreed with every single point presented. It was like he wrote just to address every question I ever had.
His grasp on the harm caused by religion is dead on. His fears for our future are something we all need to be concerned with now.
On top of everything else, he writes simply and clearly and even shows a sense of humor.
Do yourself a favor and read both of these books asap!
Book Review: Faith In Reason Summary: 5 Stars
This book, along with "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins and "God Is Not Great" by Christopher Hitchens, are must-reads for those who seek and desire a society based on reason (i.e. science) over religious dogma and superstition. I would start with Hitchens book first, then hit this one, then Dawkins, then "End of Faith." They are all enlightening reads that will hopefully start a backlash against the mindless faith-based movement that is stultifying generations of both young and old.
Strictly for those pursuing the truth and not hiding behind delusion.
Book Review: Even if you believe. he raises good points... Summary: 5 Stars
Sam Harris does a very good job on calling modern Christianity on its hypocrisy. He highlights how fundamentalist ideology is leading to dangerous medical practices and scientific hindrances, such as false teachings about condoms that will help further perpetuate AIDS in Africa and the criminalization of abortion in El Salvador, even though Christians have yet to come up with comprehensive ways to actually solve these problems once and for all. If you are a believer, it's time for you to take up the task of helping solve worldwide problems rather than causing them.
Book Review: Well Directed Attack on Christianity Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a relentless attack on Christianity and raises a lot of good points. For instance - religious people claiming to be moral preach against condom use when AIDS is killing millions. Why are they so obsessed about abortion and not about genocide in Darfur? Why are they opposed to gun control - would Jesus carry a gun? Why do they believe so adamantly in books written centuries ago - in texts that promote slavery?
Sam Harris explores many of these issues and more. Religion destroys our ability to reason and warps the soul.
