Book Reviews of Letter to a Christian Nation

Book Review: A letter detailing the Atheist concerns.
Summary: 5 Stars

If someone to ask what are the concerns of atheist regarding this country and the Christian Fundamentalist who want to forum a more "Christian" nation, I would tell them to read this short book. It only takes about a day to read (as it did with me), but it addresses all the concerns that many atheists and agnostics have about the rising religious rite in our country throughout the world. Sam Harris makes no holds-bar or apologies as he shows the grim reality that religion poses its views of morality which halts the progress of medicine, technology, science, understanding, and (quite possibly) the betterment of our nation. By demonstrating the uncertainty of the validity of the Bible and along with statistics, Sam Harris shows why Americans should be concerned about this movement. This is a great read for all Americans and serves as a warning to our nation's current status.

Book Review: Might be returned to the sender unopened
Summary: 5 Stars

Succinct and to the point. Harris does not address countless volumes of apologists, but rather dismantles dogmatic assumptions which make religions possible.

The book is full of quotes:

- Hitler praising Christian God for giving him power to fight Jews (not even as a case against religion, but rather as a mere rebuttal to the statement that somehow Hitler is considered an atheist)

- Mother Teresa expressing severe doubts in the very existence of God

- numerous Bible quotes which undoubtedly will send shivers even to most devote Christians for their cruelty and barbarism

However, the most interesting (and somewhat unsettling) point that Harris makes is that moderates are not part of the solution like most are accustomed to think, but rather contributors to the problem of religious fundamentalism.

Book Review: This book is MY bible!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is absolutely devastating to Christians. Sam Harris really doesn't pull any punches. What I appreciate the most is the relative briefness of the book. I think that may encourage more people to read something that only takes an hour or two to read verses a Richard Dawkins 500 page read that can sometimes be difficult to grasp. I've literally read the book 10 times and have enjoyed it every time. I also like how Mr Harris brings up other religions that are infinitely better than Christianity (Jainism). Because of this book, I've become more confident in my beliefs and know I'm not the only one out there who thinks like me (it's also given me some ammunition for when my Christian friends try to force their religion on me). If you're question your faith at all, this book will definitely get you off the fence. Highly recommend!!!

Book Review: Christians beware
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was excellent. Harris doesn't trash talk religion, he actually understands and appreciates why some person made it up thousands of years ago (to control the masses via moral 'obligation'). It is a short, sweet, down to the point read - he starts the chapter with a point and presents evidence and facts that are credible. If you are a christian dancing the line of blind faith and reality, this book will shove you into reality...

Harris made an excellent point that sticks with me still...although he is athiest he is more morally sound than most christians (who have prooven themselves throughout time how unbelieveably hypocritical their religion and especially their off-shoot religions are). I only had one thing to say after reading this book...DUUUUUHHH!!!!

Book Review: very eye opening
Summary: 5 Stars

I have just started reading atheist authors, started with michael shermer ( who by the way says he is a non theist)and i have to say that i have found these authors very coherent and very intelligent, much more than religious ones. bravo for their courage to speak up and make things clear to us undecided about our religion, but with serious doubts since always, i have loved every book i have read including this one. why cant everybody think like this? it is a must read, whether you are religious or not. he should come to " la ciudad de las ideas" to state his case, as this city is very conservative and could use a little change in the way it views life. bravo for his
