My name is April Johnson, age 52. My friend, Vickie, of 30 years, age 56, was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last year. The doctors told her that she needed to lose weight and maybe that would help control her diabetes, but after months she had not been able to loss weight. She says she could not wrap her head around it. I, too, have consistently gained weight over the last 7 years following a horrible car wreck. I developed seizures and am taking 9 medications. I also needed to lose weight, so, Vickie and I decided to lose weight together. You know to cheer each other on. Our plan eat less and follow a low fat diet. But, there was one catch. Vickie had me promise to attend one TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meeting with her. I reluctantly agreed to go to one meeting as her guest, but I wanted to diet for 4 weeks first. We agreed to go to tops on September 14, 2009. This is what I knew about Vickie and TOPS. She and her other friends would eat whatever they liked Tuesday through Sunday, fast on Monday, weigh in at the TOPS meeting on Monday evening, and then go out to eat immediately following the meeting. Vickie had been a member of TOPS for over 25 years and had done this ALL OF THOSE YEARS! I always thought it was insane to do this! We began our program and talked every day. In 4 weeks, we each lost about 2 pounds. But, hey our weight was down!
Vickie called me on Monday, the day of the TOPS meeting, to tell me she had changed her mind and did not want to go the the TOPS meeting because if she weighed in, it would hurt the group total of pounds lost. I did not understand how it worked, but I told her to decide because I intended to keep my promise to her. She said she would call me back. She called me a few minutes later to say that we were going to the meeting, but she had quit TOPS and had called the president to let her know. She also told me the president informed her that there was going to be guest speakers that evening and we should both come to the meeting as guests. I agreed!
We arrived at the TOPS meeting and much to my surprise every member present was very overweight although they had all been members for years! Anyway, the guests at the TOPS meeting were a local minister and his wife who had purchased the Lean for Life book. He had lost 50 pounds in 4 months and his wife had lost 45 pounds in the same amount of time. They talked a little about the book and how they ate and exercised. It was very interesting to both, Vickie and myself. So, I went home, told my husband about it, and order 2 copies on-line through Amazon.com. I got the books on September 17, 2009. We started reading the book to understand the process and began our weight loss program on September 22, 2009. AWESOME!!! I have lost 12.5 pounds in less than a month. Vickie has lost 12 pounds, and my husband, Jim, has lost over 10 pounds. WE ARE ALL AMAZED, so I shared our stories with my daughter, who has always had a weight problem. She purchased the book and is now losing weight also. I am 5'6" tall, my starting weight was 189.5. I am now happy to say that my weight today is 175. I feel lighter and more energetic. THE PLAN IS EASY. BUY THE BOOK, LEAN FOR LIFE, PHASE ONE, GO TO THE GROCERY STORE, AND FOLLOW THE PROGRAM! BE SURE TO BUY A MULTIVITAMIN AT THE STORE AND BUY THE KETOSTICKS. WAL-MART OR ANY PHARMACY HAS THE KETOSTICKS. THE BOOK WAS $17.30 WITH TAX AND SHIPPING, VITAMINS $12 AND KETOSTICKS $7 FOR 50 STICKS. I HAVE SPENT ABOUT $36 AND HAVE EATEN THE SAME FOODS I ALWAYS EAT ANYWAY, JUST IN A DIFFERENT WAY. I HAVE NOT PURCHASED ANY FOOD OR OTHER ITEMS FROM LEAN FOR LIFE'S WEBSITE.
By the way, last week I had a medical exam to purchase some life insurance. The examiner asked if I had lost any weight over the past 6 months, but she was asking about weight loss due to any kind of disease or medical condition. I just couldn't resist telling her my weight loss story. She said that she needed to lose about 100 pounds and she is going to purchase the book for her and her co-workers. AGAIN, AWESOME!!!!
