Book Reviews of Le Petit Prince (French Language Edition)

Book Review: A masterpiece that will keep you and all intrigues always
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is my all time favourite , a book which I had picked up and put down several times in the past. My mother read it to me , I read it to my children and even for myself.

Saint Exupery's classic tale can be read on many levels and enjoyed by readers of any age. He tells the story of being stranded in the desert and meeting a tiny blond boy. This Little Prince proceeds to tell of his travels from planet to planet until he arrived on Earth and of what he has learned along the way. The most important thing he reveals is a secret that was taught him by a fox that he tamed.

I saw what has kept this fable popular for so many years. I liked the characters and the "lessons." I was especially fond of the tippler and the businessman, and the poignant description of "taming." And, of course, there is the oft-quoted, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." Toward the end I began to feel that I was reading the New Testament but that is perhaps what will keep the fable in my consciousness: that and the marvelous pictures which I still find the best part of the book!

Book Review: If you decide to read this book, your world will never be the same.
Summary: 5 Stars

That statement is hinted at on the back of the book.

And presumably, this is a children's book. It clearly isn't.

If you have the courage to read this book, if you haven't already, then good luck. The ending just isn't very easy to take, but this author really seemed to know what he was doing, so I guess it was necessary.

I AM a pilot (literally) that happens to live in the desert (Southern California). So I relate to the author on a literal level, but only up to a point.

The author is nothing less, in my opinion, up there with Socrates, Einstein, and other great minds. Yes, the book really is that powerful. It masquerades as a children's book, and therefore people that should have read it, haven't. It contains some secrets, all of which (I don't think) most "adults" will acquire on the first reading. One reading of it just won't be enough.

Book Review: life lessons
Summary: 5 Stars

I read this book a year ago with my French 4 Advanced Placement class. It is still sitting on the head of my bed, because I have read it multiple times and refer to it often. I have never been more inspired, nor more changed, by any one novel. The lessons that are meant to help children grow into admirable adults can teach us adults so much more. I looked at everything differently once I finished reading this book. I learned so many invaluable lessons that I will carry with me forever. I am absolutely sure that I will read this to my children someday. The lessons I learned, from not judging someone by what they look like to getting my priorities straight, have forever changed the way I treat people and the way I live. I believe I am more mature now because of the impact this book had on me.

Book Review: A story for all ages
Summary: 5 Stars

Although I believe that this book is for everyone young or old, I think that "grown ups" will appreciate it more than kids.

The book has passages that remind the adult of the innocent little kid within.

In a lot of ways, the wisdom in the story comes as somehow a reality check.

In depth the book is about life, relationships (the little prince and the rose), friendships (the little prince and the fox) and human caracteristics...

I have read this story so many times and every time I discover something "new". This book is a work of art!

If you speak French, I recommend the French language edition over the English one.

Book Review: Fantastic Book
Summary: 5 Stars

This story was a pleasure to read in French. It portrays a child's wonderment and how we lose the ability to see with our hearts as adults. The story is creative and it reminded me of my own "invisible friend" as a child. The only thing I did not like about this story was the ending. The little prince, with a help of a snake goes back to his planet after a year on Earth. It is a little dark, but perhaps that is just the adult in me seeing with my eyes and not my heart. I give this story 5 out of 5. I wrote more about this book on my blog Amanda's Weekly Zen...
