I bought this book before the movie trailor came out. When it arrived I was worried that it might be too scary for a bedtime story for my pregnant best friend. Of course, I read it and enjoyed the entire book and illustrations. It was so different than a "typical" bedtime story and my friend and I are anything but "typical." I scribbled in my dedication and shipped it over to my bf.. When she opened it, she connected it with the "scary movie trailor!" Oh no, I didn't even think about that. I also had forgotten that my bf is a scaredy cat and just might read the book and take it into her own life (having a pool herself - hence the gift), which she did. She read the first two pages (nypmh, scary person in pool, etc.) she slammed the book shut. "Why do you hate the baby!!??" she cried outloud. She immediately called me and asked about the package. I explained that I bought and read the book BEFORE the movie came out. THe book is much "nicer" than the movie trailor of course. BUT, can you expect anything less from M.Night Shymalan? I love his movies and I love this book!! I would raise my kid to keep his/her imagination and to always be creative and that is what this book encourages...even for adults! :-)
