Book Reviews of Jurassic ParkBook Review: My English Novel Summary: 5 Stars
I'm in 9th grade and I had to read a novel for my English class. My teacher said to pick a book I haven't read before, so I looked and found "Jurassic Park." I noticed that it was by Michael Crichton, my brother always talks about him, so I decided to read it. When I read the first couple of pages I noticed that Crichton puts a lot of time in describing his characters. Though I usually don't like long descriptive books this seemed to be all right so I kept reading it. I got interested when little chicken sized dinosaurs attack a family, because Michael Crichton described how the dinosaurs crawled up the arms of the family and started to pick at there faces, it was pretty gruesome. The book it self is about an old man named John Hammond, that tries to create a park of cloned dinosaurs. He gets the DNA from Mosquitoes that are fossilized in amber. Before he opens the park he invites a group of people to tour the park. The group includes a paleontologist, a mathematician, a lawyer, and Hammond's two grand children. When the group is on the tour the power goes out causing the dinosaurs to escape and roam freely. Now the group has to get back to the main complex and call for help. When the book was over I was surprised that I liked it. Now I am reading Michael Crichtons sequel to "Jurassic Park," it is called "The Lost World." It has some of the characters from the first book. But since I read "Jurassic Park" I haven't been able to set Michael Crichtons books down since.
Book Review: Thrilling Book, With A Moral To The Story Summary: 5 Stars
I had seen a movie adaption of a Michael Crichton book ("The Andromeda Strain") and two movies he wrote ("Westworld", "Runaway"), but this is the first Crichton book I've read, and so far the only. I am not opposed to reading another book of his (in fact, I have my hands on "Timeline"), but obviously this book showed to me that Crichton is not my favorite author.
One excellent review pointed out the book is darker and gorier than the movie. I am one who saw the movie first, and I will state that I am one of the few that liked the movie better. The darkness in the book is one reason.
In spite of the darkness, though, I would consider this book to be true science fiction. The story is based on speculation of possibilities. The purpose of the story is to warn of the dangers of genetic engineering. It could qualify as a horror story, but I believe that the horror was just the result of the science fiction story, not the underlying purpose. It is excellent at pointing out that the fact we can do something doesn't mean we should.
The star of the movie is Dr. Grant. In the book, the role is shared between the action hero (Grant) and the philosophical protagonist, Ian Malcolm. A good portion of the book deals with Malcolm's intellectual arguments.
While I did not enjoy the book as much as the movie, I will still say it was well-written, and has a lot of thought behind it. I would recommend it to be read.
Book Review: Jurassic Park Review Summary: 5 Stars
If you like science fiction, mystery, and suspense Jurassic Park By Michael Crichton is the book for you. Crichton combines ALL of that into one 370 page novel. The book starts off with unidentified reptillian carcass appearing all over Costa Rica. A palentologist sends an x-ray of the creatur to a famous palentologist, Dr. Alan Grant. Grant says that it is an extinct Procompsognathus. Grant ends up meeting John Hammond a multi-billion dolar British man. Hammond invites him to an island... of the coast of Costa Rica. Hammond says that the island is right up his ally. When Grant gets to the island he finds that it is one of the most advanced amusement park in the entire world. With this park where there would be bears and crocodiles there is Brachiosaurs and Tyrannosaurus. All goes well until the power shuts down and Grant and the other tourists are taking the tour and the dinosaurs break loose. Now there is only one thing on the menu... Human. It gose from bad to worse when the dinosaur population starts sky rocketing. The scientists at the park say that it isnt possible because all of the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park are female. How did the power shut down? how is the dinosaur population going up if all the dinosaurs are female. Will anybody get off the island alive? If you want to find the answers to these questions than read Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. The book is not like the move
Book Review: A heart-pounding adrenaline rush in a paperback form Summary: 5 Stars
A selection of experts has been collected by InGen to look around a new amusement park. This park is different, InGen has created an amusement park that is populated by dinosaurs. The panel of experts is there to decide if the park is safe, because there have been accidents - fatal ones. Dr. Ian Malcolm warns them that despite all their safeguards, the park will not work, that chaos will win. When he is proved right, no one is prepared for the danger that is about to be set loose on a bunch of scientists, and two kids spending time with their grandfather.I read this book just after "The Lost World" was released because I had been told how different it was from the movie. I am glad I waited because the book deserves to be read on its own instead of being compared to the movie the whole time. I can not get over how well written this book is - but then almost all of Michael Crichton's books are exceptional. If they had followed the book more closely for the movie then I think that the movie would have been even creepier - but then they ended up using a lot of the ideas in the movie "The Lost World". The characters in this book will make you either love them or hate them - and the poetic justice at the end of the novel was a nice touch on Michael's part. You have got to read this book -even if you have seen the movie - because the book blows the movie totally out of the water.
Book Review: This Is A Great Book Summary: 5 Stars
I love this book and it make you think how greedy people are. How someone could have the nerve to try and control nature is just beyond me.Several scientists, a chaos theory expert, two kids, and a lawyer are invited to see a special theme park where their expertise will help the owner make it ready for public opening. At first the group is amazed at what they see, it's a theme park full of live dinosaurs! But soon flaws show up in how the park is constructed. Finally a covert attempt to still dinosaur embryos by an employee makes the park fail, then it is man against nature. This is a great book which basically says that we don't own nature and that we shouldn't try and clone something that's extinct because there is probably a good reason why they are. This book scares me because I know that there is probably a scientist out there trying to see if he can clone dinosaurs and not stopping to think if he should. Scientists learn stuff by reading what other people have done. They just take the next step in what someone has done to make it their own work. They didn't do the initial work themselves so they don't take responsibility for their actions. It scares me. Science isn't about helping mankind anymore, it's about making a nice juicy profit. This is a great book. Ian Malcolm, Tim and Lex are the best characters. I give this book five stars.
