Book Reviews of Jurassic Park

Book Review: The miracles of science!
Summary: 5 Stars

To begin, I actually saw the movie a considerable time before actually reading the book. And to be brutally honest, after also seeing The Lost World, my mind was submerged with a fear of disappointment. The Lost World's plot leaves a lot to be desired. But rest assured, this is a novel that completely wipes the floor with the film. Not only does it go into considerably more depth but also manages to sustain the suspense that the movies fails to deliver.

Michael Crichton has written a compelling, eventful and intriguing adventure revolving around man's unhindered pioneers into the scientific world. This unadministered experiment with DNA highlights what is essentually a path ridden with danger. Man acts before considering the resulting consequences.

The novel itself moves at a steady and unrelenting pace. There are few moments where one feels that all the action has ceaesed. Crichton's ability to lure the reader into a false sense of security only to drop an enormous event on top of them is realised thoroughly in the book. You are trained in the fact that you cannot relax.

The one thing that the book really does have as an advantage over the film is that it relies on imagination as opposed to visual affects. Yes, the movies looks wonderful, but to accompany the action, I had the image of the Dinosaurs already as a part of my mind. All the way from childhood in many ways. This book is almost bringing the youthful aspect of adventure in us all alive in a fantastic, swashbuckling oddessy. Such is the power of this written word that the mind is the only tool one needs.

This is simply enjoyment and interest from the first page. I couldn't put it down as I am sure many others couldn't. I know that it was one of my fastest ever reads. Amongst the reviews, how many times has that been said? Need I say more?

Book Review: a surprising favourite book
Summary: 5 Stars

i don't think their is a person alive today who hasn't seen the jurassic park adaptation of michael chrichton's book.
and it was because i'd seen the movie that i wasn't to keen to read the book.
as a media student and planning to do film studies in london, i began picking up books from second hand stalls that have been film, e.g tomb raider, the bodyguard, men in black, etc.
and jurassic park. it sat on my shelf untouched for over two years, until last summer.
it was study leave, the sun was shining and my exams were until two months after i went back to college, so there was no point in doing revision.
i looked at my shelf (as you do) and fancied reading a book in the garden in the glorious sunshine - that i hadn't read before.
harry potter and patricia cornwell novels were starting to become tendious after reading them over and over about 18 times.
so i picked up jurassic park and couldn't put it down.
it is now my favourite book. full of philosophy, nonlinear equations, dinosaurs, blood and gore - what more could a geek want!
don't be put off by the farce that is jurassic park the movie, the book it absoulety fantastic.
the film is just a joke - its only function is to display industrial light and magic's animatronic and cg dinosaurs (but i have to admit, they are pretty good.)
compared to the story, plot and basically entire content that the film is based on - there are no words to describe the anger and shame.
spielberg should have his hands cut off and his eyes burned out. but then, ive never really rated him as a director anyway.

read the
if i could give you just one tip for the future, jurassic park novel would be it.
It would stop this narrow minded view that the human race is the be all and end all.

Book Review: RIVETING...
Summary: 5 Stars

This is definitely one of the author's most enjoyable books. It is hard to believe that it was first published nearly twenty years ago. The fact that the book is still selling like hotcakes is testament to the strength of the story storyline. As with many of the author's books, there is definitely a moral to the story, as there usually is when a desire for profit and science are combined.

The premise of the book is fascinating. A wealthy man has a desire to make even more money. He comes up with a concept that be believes will be a sure fire winner. Design a new type of theme amusement part, one that is peppered with dinosaurs. To that end, he buys a remote island for his project and hires the best scientists and engineers that money can buy. They manage to come up with a process for cloning dinosaurs from recovered DNA, which will ensure that their goals are met and Jurassic Park becomes a reality.

There are, however, a couple of little glitches that need to be addressed before opening Jurassic Park to the general public. So, money bags invites a couple of experts, a paleontologist, a botanist, and a mathematician to the island for a dry run, as well as his own grandchildren. When they arrive, having been kept somewhat in the dark as to what to expect and thinking that the island is just some kind of grandiose resort, they are taken aback when they discover what really awaits them. Let the games begin!

This is an exciting tale in which science and non-stop action combine in a way that will rivet the reader to the pages of this book. Well-written and suspenseful, it is a book that keeps the reader in its thrall. Those who like techno-thrillers will derive much enjoyment from this masterfully told tale, which manages to educate and entertain at the same time.

Book Review: My favorite book ever.
Summary: 5 Stars

Though saying "my favorite book ever" isn't saying much, this really does deserve to be a best-seller. First, if you are new to Jurassic Park, watch the movie first, it will make a lot more sense. Now, get into this.

There is quite a bit scientific stuff going on, much of it is with Dr. Wu so if you don't care or don't know what the heck he is talking about, you can skip it. There is plently of action and suspense to go around. I assume you know the plot but if not: a crazy old man creates dinosaurs from DNA they thought was gone. He invites some scientists and others to test out the park before it opens. But a worker there tries to profit from the new-found animals and he corrupts the park to move on with the heist. Unfortunetly, the fences go down and the dinos are let loose...with the people inside.

The characters are many, and all have a distinct personality. Ian Malcolm, a mathematician, is SURE, even before he sees it, that the park will fail and he describes (MANY TIMES) Chaos Theory. The park creator, John Hammond is an arrogant old man who does not listen to the others concerns. Now, the way this differs from the book is many deaths are switched. Some survive here and die in the movie and vice-versa. Also Hammond in the movie is a sweet grandpa-like charcater, not a jerk. And in the film the kids ages are switched. Which reminds me, Lex here is extremely annoying and should have been dropped.

Anyway, this has so much more stuff then the movie did and at 400 pages, there is a lot of stuff. The carnivores are terrifying and even after reading it 3 times, you still fear for the people in danger. So now, I say go get this or at least check it out from the library. I loved the movie. But this blew it out of the water.

Book Review: something for everybody
Summary: 5 Stars

Books don't get made into movies without a reason. The "Lord of the rings" series got into theaters for the reason that it is an all-time favorite; and the "Harry Potter¡¨novels has its motion pictures for being a worldwide bestseller. Well, here's something you should know: three, THREE of Michael Crichton's (author of Jurassic Park) books were made into movies. Why? Because his stories carry all the fun, thrill, irresistible suspense, and intellectual knowledge you could possibly imagine experiencing in one book. And if you were kind enough to give the¡§Jurassic Park¡¨movie anything around a B, its book will definitely deserve an A+.

There is something for everybody. For the sci-fi lovers, there's a section with plenty of details upon the out-of-your-mind idea on how the dinosaurs were created from a DNA strand obtained, and the science of cloning that seems so unbelievably real once you read it. Moreover, you are accompanied by a mathematician, who can impress you with his logical persuasiveness when discussing complex subjects that makes the chaos theory he talks about appear so easy. For those who crave for an action, thriller, and suspense combination, this is the one too. The feeling of not knowing what will suddenly jump out and the courageous attempt for the characters to escape the lethal dinasaurs' grasp can definitely fill your satisfaction. Even for those who would like to try a new book, especially one where they can read from beginning to end without ever wanting to stop, this is the perfect book.

So, forget the movie. I've seen it too. But no matter how many times you've seen it on HBO, this book will draw you in and give you no breaks. Check it out at the library near you. It wont let you down.
