Book Reviews of Jewish Meditation: A Practical Guide

Book Review: Fabulous Book!
Summary: 5 Stars

Jewish Meditation: A Practical Guide by Aryeh Kaplan is the best book I have read so far on this topic. It is extremely interesting, inspiring, and easy to understand and has a wealth of information. I liked the fact that the author warns his readers about certain methods of meditation that are not for beginners while at the same time gives clarity about the various types of meditations that are safe with guidelines how to practice them. There are also a lot of extremely interesting facts about Judaism that I was happy to learn. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in meditation from a Jewish perspective and gaining some basic knowledge about Kabbalah.

Book Review: An amazing read
Summary: 5 Stars

So few books that you read in life are really life changing. This one will be a life changing book for me. I have tried meditation in the past, but I found it a little difficult becuase I didn't know if my experiences were what I should be having. No one has ever explained meditation so clearly, so concisely, and in such layman terms before for me.

I feel this book is a valid resource if you are looking for more information about meditation, interested in Kabbala, or even trying to express yourself spiritually. I was continually amazed at the clarity of his writting in this book. I can't recommend this enough to anyone that is interested in meditation.

Book Review: News: Judaism has real traditions of meditation!
Summary: 5 Stars

The late great Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan combed the sources to discover the various traditions of meditation that had been passed down in the rabbinic tradition for centuries. Many of them are summarized here and explained in clear, helpful terms. If you're interested in developing a practice, you will probably want to read also MINDING THE TEMPLE OF THE SOUL by Tamar Frankiel and Judy Greenfeld, which integrates meditation with traditional prayer and conscious movement. Also, Rabbi Kaplan's MEDITATION AND KABBALAH and MEDITATION AND THE BIBLE are good supplements to enrich your background for understanding this book.

Book Review: Not just for Jewish practitioners
Summary: 5 Stars

Even though this book focuses on Jewish meditation and the Quabalah, the book can be read and used by anyone, either practically by following the exercises or simply to enrich their knowledge of meditation intellectually.

Some readers may avoid the book thinking that it would only be worthwhile to a follower of a Jewish tradition, a pity, since the book has much to offer everyone interested in meditating.

For those interested in a more in-depth treatment of Jewish Meditation and the Quabalah Aryeh Kaplan's other book 'Meditation and Kabbalah' goes into further detail.

Book Review: Awesome, literally.
Summary: 5 Stars

Though I am not Jewish (yet), I found this book to be very informative, in depth, and quite entertaining.
The book is written in simple, yet profound phrasing. The author wastes no ink. Every phrase is important.
I read the book slowly. Though only 165 pages, there is a lot of information to digest.
I am now on my second reading. I made many notes, and inquired online on some topics mentioned
by the author.
Great tool to start, continue, or improve on any meditation program.
Strongly recommend this beautiful book.
