Book Reviews of Jesus of Nazareth

Book Review: So far so good...
Summary: 5 Stars

With an analytical personality, I appreciate having things explained in detail. Growing up Roman Catholic, I gained my faith without a lot of biblical explanations. The bible studies that I had participated in did very little to satisfy my hunger for explanations.

This book is like having Pope Benedict in the room with you at a bible study. It goes through details of the scriptures and cross references old & new testament information along with putting things in historical and cultural perspective. It is excellent! It will satisfy the analytical person's thirst for this knowledge. It really enlightens why Christians have the "new" testament - a new "Torah", if you will.

Please keep in mind that, as a slow reader, I get a couple of pages in per night and already know that this book will need to be read multiple times.

Book Review: As a father teaches his children
Summary: 5 Stars

Jesus of Nazareth
In language that is readily understood, despite often tackling intricate exegetical issues, the Holy Father shows his loving desire to open the pages of Scripture for his children anxious to have a deeper personal relationship with the historical Jesus. In explaining certain portions of the life of Christ as written in the gospels in the context of the total biblical treasure, Pope Benedict draws upon both Catholic and non-Catholic resources to make Jesus appear in the mind of the reader in the fullness of His Messianic mission. To read this very enjoyable book is to come face to face with the one Person in the history of mankind who matters most in understanding the big questions of life: Who am I? and Where am I going?

Book Review: The Pope has an intense relationship with Jesus Christ
Summary: 5 Stars

Pope Benedict is obviously a deep thinker and has an intense connection to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As the vicar of Christ and 265th in an unbroken apostolic line of succession, Pope Benedict gives us a depth of love nad truth unseen before.
Jesus Himself told Peter that He would build His Church upon the rock of Peter. Jesus Himself started His Church,, not man. Jesus Himself appointed Peter the first pope tohead His Church, not man. The Church is and eternal sign of unity and love.
Jesus told us that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and that we are to pick up our crosses daily and follow Him. The Pope draws the connection between the Old Testament and the new and shows their unity and pointing to Jesus Christ as the Messiah.
As Pope Benedict asks, what does Jesus bring us? He brings us God.

Book Review: The Gospel for Modern Mankind
Summary: 5 Stars

Pope Benedict XVI writes "Jesus of Nazareth" as a Gospel for modern mankind. Through incisive philosophic discourse, he reveals the Jesus of history as a living man of profound character and impact. Pope Benedict writes in an academic fashion that might put off some people who prefer a more direct literary fashion, but if one has the patience to accept the many references of those who came before, and the careful philosophical logic, then one is treated to a cornucopia of inspiring thought. His cross references show that he correlates the thoughts and experiences of many down through history, rather than putting forth his own personal opinions. He comes off as a leader and a scholar rather than as a fantasy writer. In being so, Christ is presented as historically viable yet awesome to the modern mind.

Book Review: Jesus of Nazareth by Pope Benedict XVI
Summary: 5 Stars

Pope Benedict XVI seems to reveal a deep personal quandary in search "for the face of the Lord." The book is well written, his arguments are inspiring, and it gives us the perspective on 2,000 years of Christian development and insight.

Pope Benedict XVI argues that Jesus is history itself for his identity permeates all narratives. While he agrees that everyman knows Jesus at a personal level as someone who dearly loves us, enough to have sacrificed life itself for us and our salvation.

The debate between all religions is surfaced but our Pope is clear in leaving the message that Jesus is the Word of God made flesh, embodying the fullness of truth!

A rather enjoyable book that opens the door to get to know the thoughts of Pope Benedict XVI.
