Book Reviews of JOY OF COOKING

Book Review: THE classic cookbook
Summary: 5 Stars

Couldn't believe what we paid for a new, hardcover copy of the best general cookbook of all time. We gave our old early edition paperback version to our kid and adore this one. The type is much larger (good for us old folks) and it has extra goodies not found in the earlier versions. This, and a Ken Hom Chinese cookbook, are the only two books we regularly refer to.

Book Review: A grand overview
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great book that should serve as a reference to other cook books. I often find a recipe in other, more specific books, and then cross reference the ingredients and procedures with "The Joy of Cooking".

i have also found the beverages section to serve as a very helpful guide to many "standard" mixed drink recipes.

Book Review: A MUST HAVE cookbook for the new or experienced cook!
Summary: 5 Stars

I won't bore you with a long review. Just know that this cookbook contains EXCELLENT recipes, most from the basic scratch form. Each and everytime I make a recipe out of here EVERYONE raves and barely are their leftovers. Instructions and tips aid in perfect results. BUY IT. GIVE ONE AS A GIFT. It will be passed on through generations like mine has.

Book Review: Even better than I expected
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the paperback version in the 70's and it wore out because I used it so much. Recent versions of the cookbook were not to my liking because discriptions of unfamiliar ingredients were lacking. I was looking for a hardback version and I expected a heavily used one, and this one looks brand new. So that was a nice surprise. Thank you.

Book Review: Thirty years later, it's still the bible
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my second copy of Joy of Cooking. I had the 70's printing, but it must've gotten lost during a move. I thought I was buying the 80's printing when I recently ordered it from Amazon, but I got another 70's one. But that's fine; It's still the bible. My mother swore by the 1952 Betty Crocker Cookbook, I cook according to Irma Rombauer.
